Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner with a degree in Psychology, Social Work or equivalent who is compassionate and enthusiastic about delivering high-quality person-centered care to their clients. You will be supervising a small team of fantastic behaviour support practitioners. The position is suitable for a provisional psychologist, and other allied health with experience in behaviour support. We are proud to offer internal board-approved secondary supervision for the 4+2 and 5+1 programs.
The position will suit someone looking for part-time or full-time employment.

Positive Futures Queensland offers a hybrid service, mixing office-based, work-from-home and mobile services. On occasion, you will be required to travel to and from client's homes to deliver services. You will have the flexibility to work remotely where appropriate (i.e. work from home) and can also work from the Positive Futures Queensland offices located in Springwood (primary office), with workspaces available in Bellbird Park and Caboolture. This position may require supporting participants in the Greater Brisbane, Ipswich and South Brisbane areas, we match these areas based on your needs. What the role will involve:
Provision of a combination of community and office-based services to NDIS participants of all ages, supported by a Multidisciplinary Team.
Demonstration of leadership through the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of behaviour support practitioners. This will involve provision of individual and group supervision alongside a small team of Senior Clinicians.
Development of Behaviour Support Plans including Comprehensive and Interim Behaviour Support Plans that meet the NDIS Commission’s requirement for the use of Restrictive Practices and their implementation.
Provision of capacity building, person-centered behaviour support services to a varied and complex client caseload.
Provision of training and specialist advice to small stakeholder teams on Behaviour Support Plans, best practice and Restrictive Practices, including comprehensive knowledge of relevant requirements outlined within QLD legislation and national guidelines.
Ongoing evaluation around the suitability and effectiveness of the implemented strategies collaborating with families and stakeholders, both informally and through participation in regular service reviews.
Provision of a range of assessments to a wide client base, including adaptive behaviour and function of behaviour assessments, however may also include diagnostic and cognitive assessments if within the scope of your qualifications.
Provide evidence-based clinical knowledge, expertise and support to clients and their stakeholders.
Consult and liaise with clients, allied health, care providers, carers/family members, relevant agencies and government departments.
Provide counselling and psychotherapy to clients if within the scope of your qualifications.
Occasionally Positive Futures Queensland offers a mobile service to our participants meaning you may be required to travel to and from their home (with mileage compensated).
Provide psychosocial skill development and support to clients and their families on a range of mental health and psychosocial disability issues.
The role has flexible work arrangement built in. Components of the role will be completed remotely however you will be required to attend the office for meetings, consultation and client sessions.
Preferred Applicants:
Be registered as “Advanced” or “Specialist” with the NDIS Commission, or clear evidence as working towards meeting those levels.
At least 3 years' experience as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, or equivalent role (preferred).
Relevant tertiary degree (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Counselling, Social Welfare, Disability, Teaching or Social Sciences).
Experience in supervising and coaching other NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioners (preferred).
Experience working with complex clients, including people with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder and non-verbal clients.
Comprehensive knowledge and experience of restrictive practices, and the provision of advice to service providers and families.
Prepared to travel regularly to clients/service providers and have a reliable vehicle to enable travel to and from clients and stakeholders.
Able to write and review in-depth reports including assessment reports, development of strategies, Behaviour Support Plans and reports to medical or government departments.
Have good written communication skills and experience in clinical writing.
Have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with team members, as well as stakeholders. Management skills will require you to be a supportive and fair, but also effective, leader.
Be registered with the relevant governing body if appropriate (AHPRA, Ed QLD, AASW etc.). Provisional registration is suitable.
