About you & the role

With a strong focus on quality, innovation and practical functionality, the role is broad with a mix of hands-on evaluations with our product test machine. Product application simulations, competitor assessments, documentation creation design and market ready preparation and post market evaluations. The successful applicant will be motivated by the growth potential within a large domestic and even larger international market.

You’re the kind of person that likes varied work, is not afraid to get their hands dirty, but understands the importance of setting up the right environment, documentation and workflow processes.

After being inducted and familiarising yourself with our existing products and longer term product plans, you’ll be confident to commence working with the product group and picking up the product development work in progress tasks, partly underway.

The primary requirements include expert use of solid-works, a detailed understanding of cost price analysis, product performance testing and other practical in field tasks - You will also be comfortable doing practical hands-on-work and when required work with end users and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will be surrounded by support and many years of experience.

Reporting to the Managing Director, and indirectly working with our Product Supply Manager and other team members when required.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate Product Group Meetings.

As required, liaise with our off-shore and local suppliers regarding product development tasks, warranty, compliance and related queries.

Liaise with our Supply Manager to plan product orders and deliveries.

Liaise with our Customer Service Manager regarding product warranty claims and other product performance feedback.

Liaise with the Marketing team regarding new product delivery - promotions and related collateral.

Design new product renders and in situ applications based on innovative product ideation.

Review, mark up and correct product design drawings and samples.

Liaise with product design partners and other stakeholders as required

Undertake field testing information collection and investigations.

Undertake competitor research and related investigations

Positively contribute to all general meetings and discussions making a positive contribution regarding product applications and other business initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Formal qualifications (Product Design Engineer or similar)

Able to create a practical excel worksheet

Practical understanding of stage gate product development processes

Experience in workflow creation and application

Highly competent in solid works or similar design software

Evidence of objective and creative thinking.

Evidence of being handy with tools and adaptable to varying tasks.

A willingness to listen and learn

Proficient and report creation, information analysis and the ability to make informed decisions.

Proven experience of thinking strategically and seeing the big picture but also being able to execute tactically

Highly Advantageous

Automotive product development experience

Experience with design and product development.

Evidence of practical hands on hobby experience

A passion for the automotive industry
