Who is Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation?
Founded in 1984, the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation (RAC) represents the Rirratjingu people, the Indigenous Traditional Owners of Land on the Gove Peninsula. The RAC’s aim is to ensure the Rirratjingu community is financially self-sufficient and able to deliver benefits to our members and make a genuine difference in our community.
Position Purpose
The purpose of the Member Support Coordinator position is to provide essential support to members of Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation in North East Arnhem Land by facilitating access to social programs, external services, and community resources. This role involves coordinating member logistics, assisting with community events, and addressing member needs with empathy and cultural sensitivity. Ultimately, the position aims to empower individuals within the community and enhance their well-being through effective advocacy and support services.
Key Responsibilities
Provide culturally appropriate support to members in a manner that ensures access to relevant services, providing members with information about available programs and community resources
Work collaboratively and develop networks that foster and maintain positive stakeholder and interagency relationships and supports for members needs
Maintain accurate and confidential records of member interactions, service referrals, and outcomes
Track the progress of member cases and report on outcomes to management for continuous improvement
Support with RAC events and organising RAC Buŋguls and Welcome to Country
Assist the Culture and Community Manager and Senior Community Projects Officer with aspects of program delivery and engagement with external stakeholders as required
Report to the Culture and Community Manager on a regular basis to demonstrate efficacy of the member support framework
Assist Directors and Members with Social Program and Funeral Fund requests, including but not limited to:
Filling in appropriate forms and following approval processes as per policy guidelines
Seeking quotes where needed
Making travel bookings, including but not limited to; charter flights and taxis
Liaising with other stakeholders to ensure requests are fulfilled in a timely manner, including but limited to; health, patient travel and funeral services
Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the Culture and Community Manager
Education, Qualifications and Licences
Working Rights in Australia
Drivers License will be highly regarded / essential
Working with Children's Clearance (Ochre Card) - or ability to obtain one
Skills and Experience
Essential;
An understanding of Yolngu culture and kinship systems and the community dynamics within the Gove region.
Proficient in Yolngu Matha and able to converse with Rirratjingu members confidently.
Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a diverse range of people.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to convey information clearly and empathetically.
Attention to detail for handling forms and logistics.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with community members.
Empathy and compassion for individuals facing various challenges.
Ability to assess situations and provide appropriate solutions or referrals.
Creative thinking to address community issues and support needs.
Proficient in using office software (e.g., MS Office, databases).
Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and challenging work environment.
Desirable;
Previous experience in the Aboriginal Community Controlled sectors
Background in social work, community services, or related fields.
Experience with case management or support roles.
Familiarity with external services available to support community members
