THE OPPORTUNITY

Salary: $122,728 - $131,291 per annum pro rata + 11.5% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience).
Position Status: Contract of employment until 31 December 2025. Please note, this is a leave coverage position.
Time Fraction: 0.6 EFT, Part-Time.
Location: Waverley campus - onsite parking and close proximity to public transport

The Course Leader – Early Childhood Education provides academic leadership in the development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of higher education programs. The role implements contemporary, integrated teaching practices that support student learning and foster a culture of professional development, research, and scholarly inquiry.

This position ensures alignment with Holmesglen’s quality assurance processes and compliance with relevant regulatory and professional bodies, including ACECQA, AITSL, and VIT. It includes a component of face-to-face teaching and plays a key part in enhancing the profile and quality of the Institute’s Early Childhood Education offerings.

The successful candidate will also lead the promotion of higher education programs and build strong relationships with industry partners, professional bodies, and the wider community.

As a Course Leader, you will:

  • Lead, supervise and support academic staff in recruitment, performance, and development.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teaching teams, meetings, and advisory committees.
  • Mentor staff and guide course delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee curriculum development, teaching quality, and compliance with TEQSA standards.
  • Monitor student progress, manage projects, and embed flexible, applied learning strategies.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Demonstrated success in academic leadership, with experience in curriculum design, course management, and assessment processes in higher education.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and support academic teams to deliver high-quality educational outcomes aligned with strategic and regulatory requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of the early childhood sector, including ACECQA, AITSL and VIT frameworks, and a strong understanding of contemporary teaching and learning strategies.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, applied research, and project management, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement in course delivery and student support.
  • Minimum master’s degree in early childhood education and significant sector experience; preferred doctorate and/or progress toward or completion of a relevant higher degree is highly regarded.

The Department of Early Childhood Education provides qualifications at Certificate III to Bachelor levels that are designed to produce early childhood teachers, kindergarten assistants, family day carers and educators, who are responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating and leading early childhood education and care programs. Students develop the skills to work on early childhood education programs, foster inclusion, and support young people’s learning and wellbeing.

The Department of Early Childhood Education courses include practical placement opportunities, allowing learners to grow their skills in professional education providers. Incorporation of professional engagement and applied learning opportunities, allow students to gain practical, hands-on experience and develop a deep understanding of the subjects they are studying.
