Communications Officer
We’re looking for a dynamic and passionate Communications Officer to lead the charge in delivering compelling, data-driven content that fuels advocacy, fundraising, service delivery and engagement across our diverse community.
Fixed Term Contract - 12 months (Parental Leave coverage)
Flexible work options
What you’ll do:
This isn’t your average comms job. You’ll be hands-on across strategy and execution, balancing day-to-day content creation with high-impact campaign work.
Create content that connects
Craft and manage engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, BlueSky our website, email marketing and print.
Capture stories through words, photos, and video to bring our impact to life.
Coordinate regular publications and ensure our voice is inclusive, bold and on-brand.
Build and maintain 90-day content calendars that inspire action across every channel and audience segment.
Drive strategic campaigns
Work across teams to deliver digital campaigns that support our frontline services, advocacy wins, fundraising goals and flagship programs like She Leads.
Develop messaging, write creative briefs, and guide design—ensuring every campaign has purpose and punch.
Track results and prepare reports that prove what’s working (and what could work better).
Lead media & brand storytelling
Write media releases, prepare media kits and build meaningful relationships with local press and influencers.
Be a brand champion—keeping our messaging, tone and look sharp, consistent and inclusive.
Shape content strategies through audience research and data-led insights.
Evaluate & evolve
Monitor performance across all platforms using tools like Google Analytics, bit.ly and social media insights.
Prepare monthly reports and recommend adjustments that grow reach, deepen engagement and drive conversions.
About You
You’re a creative communicator with a passion for social media, storytelling, and meaningful engagement. You bring a mix of sharp strategy and hands-on content creation, and you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
The right person will have:
Exceptional communication skills—written, verbal and visual—with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and platforms.
Strong digital skills, including experience with Canva, Campaign Monitor (or Mailchimp), and WordPress.
A deep understanding of social media, from content creation and community management to advanced platform use and paid reach strategies.
A strategic mindset, able to own and deliver end-to-end content strategies that are insight-driven, goal-aligned and audience-focused.
A team-oriented attitude with a collaborative spirit, plus the ability to take initiative and run with your own projects.
Proven project management skills—you’re organised, deadline-driven, and confident juggling multiple tasks under pressure.
Experience managing online and offline communities and events, and nurturing strong relationships with key stakeholders including journalists, bloggers, government reps and community groups.
A creative eye and the ability to develop compelling content that speaks directly to the people who need to hear it most.
Above all, you're driven by purpose. You care deeply about social justice and gender equality, and you want your work to make a genuine impact.
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or similar.
Experience working in communications, journalism, public relations, advocacy, marketing, or similar.
