6-month Contract (potential for extension) | Canberra City (Hybrid/WFH) | $66.10-$75.16/hr + super

An experienced and enthusiastic Communications and Engagement Officer is sought to join an ACT Government department. This role involves managing a busy and diverse workload, from drafting media releases to creating content for project updates and engaging in community pop-up events. You’ll have the opportunity to work autonomously, while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to contribute across various projects.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, production, coordination, and implementation of communications materials and campaigns across various projects.
  • Write, edit, create, curate, and publish engaging content for a variety of ACT Government channels, including social media, websites, and electronic mail.
  • Support reactive media inquiries and produce media materials, including organising media briefings and reporting.
  • Coordinate events, presentations, and support community engagement activities for project teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure communications objectives are met and ensure the success of all projects.

Position RequirementsProfessional / Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in planning and implementing communications strategies, including content creation for different mediums and channels such as video, social media, and websites.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities across various projects.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary communications and media practices.

Behavioural Capabilities

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Effective liaison and negotiation with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and think innovatively in a complex and dynamic environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in communications, media, public relations, or strategic communications.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours as needed.
