About Us
We are a certified social enterprise helping Australians transition their homes to clean energy by electrifying everything.
At ZapCat our mission is to make it as simple as possible for ordinary Australians to transition their homes to clean energy by getting solar and electrifying their homes.
We do this by providing households with independent advice and connecting them with vetted local installers.
About the Role
We’re looking for a highly organised, action-oriented Clean Energy Advisor to guide households on their journey to electrify their homes.
The ideal candidate will have a background in the solar industry, but this role will go beyond just solar and batteries and also cover EV charging, hot water heat pumps, reverse cycle air conditioning, and induction cooking. You’ll be the trusted expert who helps them make the right decisions with clarity and confidence.
You’re not here to sell. You’re here to diagnose, recommend, and guide. Think of yourself as a GP for clean energy: you assess the household’s situation, explain the best-fit options, set expectations clearly, and then refer them to our network of vetted installers.
You’ll be in daily contact with curious households who range from technically oblivious, guilty-time poor parents to passionate optimization geeks. Your job is to make the process as easy as possible for them.
Hours and Location
This role is part-time, starting at 10 - 15 hours per week spread over 5 days (2-3 hours per day) with the potential to increase to 20+ hours per week spread over 5 days (4+ hours per day).
It is a fully remote role, and you can work from any location. There is flexibility in when the hours of work need to be completed, and we're happy to work with you to decide when your working hours are. Some hours each week will need to be completed during business hours Sydney time.
What You’ll Do
Respond to inbound enquiries for solar, battery, and other electrification products. No cold calling.
Assess customer needs based on their goals, household situation, and property details.
Conduct consultations via email, phone, and video call, explaining complex concepts in a simple, objective, and personalised way.
Recommend solutions clearly and confidently, backed by industry benchmarks, installer feedback, and real-world pricing.
Refer to vetted installers, matching customers to the right provider based on technical fit, location, and preferences.
Own the customer journey, keeping our CRM up to date, following up consistently, tracking progress, and keeping things moving without dropping the ball.
Stay sharp — keep up with new products, policy updates, and industry changes to ensure your advice is always accurate.
What You Bring
A passion for clean energy and problem-solving — you enjoy helping people make smart decisions to electrify their homes. You’re a nerd for VPPs and all the latest technology.
A task-oriented, systematic approach — you love a well-organised CRM and don’t let things slip. You’re detail-oriented and ensure that every email is perfect.
Confidence in technical conversations — you’re comfortable reading spec sheets, comparing performance metrics, and explaining trade-offs.
The ability to communicate complex things simply — you speak to the customer at their level of technical comfort. You don’t default to jargon. You’re very happy to talk to people who don’t know (and don’t care) what an inverter is.
A strong sense of responsibility — when a customer is in your hands, you make sure they’re looked after.
What You Need
Experience in the residential solar industry. You're comfortable looking at roofs on Pylon/Open Solar, you know exactly how to decipher an energy bill, and you know how to create a great proposal for solar & battery.
Experience with whole-home electrification (getting off gas appliances) is a bonus, but not required. We will provide training.
Any of the below is also a bonus:
SAA Accredited Solar Designer
Electrician background
Engineering qualification
Energy efficiency background (Scorecard, NatHers)
Experience with hot water heat pumps, air conditioning, EV charging, induction cooking, insulation.
Have electrified your own home
What Success Looks Like
Households feel informed, confident, and supported throughout their electrification journey.
Customers are matched with the right installers and progress toward installation without friction.
You manage a steady volume of households without losing track of details or timelines.
You’re a respected voice in the team, able to speak on behalf of the challenges of households and the latest developments in the industry and technologies.
Why Join Us
Become a true independent advisor. Many solar sales companies claim they want what's best for the customer, but there's always an incentive that says otherwise. At ZapCat, we are funded by external organisations, leaving you free to provide unbiased advice.
True flexibility. Fully remote. This role is part-time and we’re happy to work with you to decide when your working hours are. We might occasionally need you to present at an event or visit a site, but that will be rare. Stay-at-home parents are welcome to apply.
No sales pressure. Secure base salary. No commission or targets to hit.
Broaden your horizons. Work not just with solar and batteries, but also with whole home electrification and be more connected with the energy transition.
Join a small team with experienced leaders. The founders have led large teams in some of Australia’s most successful technology companies, and strongly believe in creating fulfilling work cultures with high levels of psychological safety & autonomy. As a team of 4, we're early in our journey, but we’ve already reached thousands of households and work with some of the leading organisations in the electrification ecosystem in Australia. We have big ambitions - join us!
