About Us
South West Community Care is a not-for-profit Organisation and Registered Charity local to the South West, providing aged care and in-home services to the local community. It is managed by a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who is supported by a Chief Governance Officer and Management Team overseeing operations and supporting a team of over 120 employees and volunteers. The CEO, in conjunction with a volunteer Board of Management, sets the strategic direction for the organisation.
South West Community Care is managed locally and embraces the ‘Wellness’ Approach when delivering care to eligible older Australians in the Community approximately 1000 clients currently, providing services designed to maintain independence dignity and quality of life for our ageing community. Position Purpose
Reporting to the Organisational Development Manager, this role will assist in building WHS capacity across the organisation through investigating incidents and developing hazard controls, overseeing emergency procedures, supporting the delivery of WHS training and providing specialist advice to employees.
You will monitor and administer SWCC’s WHS and Risk framework, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for the organisation. You will be assisting in the building, embedding and monitoring of risk management and compliance frameworks.
Position Responsibilities
As an WHS / Injury Management Officer you will be responsible for and assist with:
WHS Compliance and Policy Administration
- Contribute to the development, and assist with the implementation, and updating of WHS policies and procedures in alignment with legal and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice, and guidelines applicable to the aged care sector.
- Contribute to the development and review of WHS documentation, including risk assessments and incident reports.
- Ensure data accuracy of safety audit records.
Risk Management
- Undertake regular risk assessments for office-based employees and other aged care operations.
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards and risks.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and workplace injuries, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Maintain risk and incident registers.
Training & Education
- Deliver WHS training sessions to employees to promote awareness and compliance.
- Apply application of knowledge and skills in the development of educational materials and tools for staff, tailored to the aged care environment.
- Support new employees with WHS inductions.
- Contribute to toolbox content and education for the Care Workforce.
Safety Audits and Inspections
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Coordinate internal and external WHS audits.
- Monitor and evaluate workplace compliance through inspections and follow-up actions.
Workers Compensation, Claims Management, Fitness for Work and Injury Prevention
- Oversee the management of workers' compensation claims, ensuring accurate and timely lodgement of claims.
- Assist in the design and implementation of programs to reduce the prevalence of workplace injuries.
- Liaise with employees, insurance providers, and medical professionals to facilitate claims processing and return-to-work programs.
- Maintain detailed records of claims and provide regular updates to management.
- Working with employees and medical professionals to ensure they are fit to perform the inherent requirements of their roles.
Emergency and Incident Response
- Assist with the development and testing of emergency response plans.
- Act as the first point of contact during emergencies and ensure appropriate response measures.
- Maintain records of emergency drills and update procedures as necessary.
Collaboration and Incident Response
- Collaborate with managers and staff to address safety concerns and initiatives.
- Report WHS metrics, trends, and recommendations to senior management.
- Actively contribute to fostering a positive safety culture.
To thrive in this role you will have:
- Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety, or relevant demonstrated experience.
- Demonstrated ability to write quality reports, perform data analysis, assist in the review and implementation of policies and procedures, train staff on WHS processes
- Experienced in conducting workplace inspections, leading incident investigations, writing reports and presenting findings to Executive level management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice.
- Demonstrated Return to Work (RTW) and Injury Management (IM) experience.
- Demonstrated high attention to detail and ability to prioritise and complete tasks efficiently and to deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate and consult with all levels of employees and external providers.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft 365 and WHS Applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Time management and organisational skills with ability to prioritise work tasks and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with manual handling, slips, trips and falls, and the risks associated with these.
Office Base Location
Based at the Australind Office but will be required to work from other sites.
