ABOUT THE ROLE

Boorloo Bidee Mia (BBM) provides a low-threshold and change accommodation option for people who have been sleeping rough. It provides 66 rooms, a range of common areas, and ongoing, responsive support available to all residents for the duration of their stay. A key focus of the service is to support Aboriginal people experiencing homelessness.

As part of the BBM Leadership Team, the BBM Community Activities Coordinator reports to the Housing and Homelessness Manager. This role oversees opportunities for community development, supporting residents and staff to share responsibility for a thriving BBM community, and supporting residents to developing skills and experiences that will enable them to thrive in accommodation beyond this service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Line management and supervision of the BBM Community Activities Team.

Co-creation, Co-design, and Co-production of the BBM Community Activities program.

Collaborate with residents and staff on a daily basis to ensure alignment of community activities with the needs of the community.

Coordinate internal Wungening and external visiting services to support engagement and participation in their programs.

Support the entire BBM Team to deliver the service and establish a thriving community.

Developing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote better outcomes for people experiencing homelessness, with a key focus for Aboriginal people.

Demonstrating leadership and management skills as part of the BBM Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

The ability to work in a manner consistent with Wungening Values.

Extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture, protocols, boundaries, and experience working within the Aboriginal community.

Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people from culturally and linguistically (CALD) diverse backgrounds, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Qualifications and experience in a relevant discipline e.g. Welfare, Community Services, Social Work or Counselling.

Demonstrated frontline line management and supervision experience.

Experience delivering housing and homelessness services in a residential setting.

Motivation and enthusiasm to support people, staff, and residents, to participate in community activities.

Commitment to support the agency of the people we work with, promoting empowerment and self-determination.

A great attitude and curiosity to learn new ways of working.

Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the team.

Sound computer skills, experience working with MS Office programs and data management systems.

Willingness to undertake personal and professional development.
