About the Roles:
Our registrars provide high-quality care to inpatients (general paediatric and neonatal unit) and outpatients within Alice Springs Hospital, local MDT developmental services and remote community clinics.
We have two role types available:
1. General Paediatric registrars
Rotational roster of paediatric and neonatal ward service and general paediatric clinics
Accredited for RACP Advanced Training in General Paediatrics (General Paediatrics: Rural, with perinatal. 12-month terms also meet criteria for 6 months “acute” OR 6 months “Dev/Psych”
2. Community/Outreach Paediatric Registrars
Remote community outreach clinics, MDT developmental/behavioural assessment clinics,
high-risk infant follow-up program & Out of Home Care clinics.
The General Paediatric role is accredited for RACP Advanced Training in General Paediatrics, “General Paediatrics: Rural, with perinatal”. 12 months in the General Paediatric role can also satisfy either the a. “Acute” or b. “Developmental/Psychosocial (D&P)” training requirement. It is also accredited for ACRRM training (Paediatric AST).
The Community/Outreach role is accredited for RACP Advanced Training in General Paediatrics, Developmental/Psychosocial (D&P) requirement. It is also accredited for RACP Advanced Training in Community Child Health (CCH)(non-core).
About the Department of Paediatrics:
Alice Springs Hospital is a 183-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the Flinders University in South Australia and Charles Darwin University in Darwin, with a catchment covering two-thirds of the Northern Territory (over 1,000,000 km2). We care for children and families from the Central Australian and Barkly regions of the Northern Territory, as well as the bordering areas of Western Australia and South Australia.
The Paediatric department has 7 consultants, 7 ward registrar and 2 community/outreach registrar positions. Services include a 30-bed dedicated paediatric ward, an 8-bed neonatal unit (routinely admitting >32/40 and 1500g newborns) and access to ICU beds as required. Delivery of outpatient clinics in hospital, remote community and local MDT developmental services are core components of our service.
Alice Springs Hospital works closely with Tennant Creek Hospital, local and remote clinics across the Central Australian, Barkly and APY land districts. The hospital has strong links to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, as tertiary referral centres and through visiting sub-specialists from these hospitals.

RACP Advanced Trainees in Paediatrics & Child Health will be prioritised. Applications are also open to Basic Trainees (unaccredited or through WCH secondment) and clinicians from other disciplines looking to upskill in paediatrics.
