About Alice Springs Hospital (ASH)
Alice Springs Hospital is a 209-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the Flinders University in South Australia and Charles Darwin University in Darwin, with a catchment covering two-thirds of the Northern Territory (over 1,000,000 km2). Caring for children and families from the Central Australian and Barkly regions of the Northern Territory, and bordering areas of Western Australia and South Australia.
ASH works closely with Tennant Creek Hospital, local and remote clinics across the Central Australian, Barkly and APY land districts. The hospital has strong links to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, as tertiary referral centres and through visiting sub-specialists from these hospitals.
Paediatric Department
The Paediatric department has 7 consultants, 7 ward registrar and 2 community/outreach registrar positions. Services include a 30-bed dedicated paediatric ward, an 8-bed neonatal unit (routinely admitting >32/40 and 1500g newborns) and access to ICU beds as required. Delivery of outpatient clinics in hospital, remote community and local MDT developmental services are core components of our service.
The Role
As the Specialist Clinician/Senior Specialist Clinician you will contribute to the provision of high-quality healthcare to the children of Central Australia, through inpatient care on the neonatal and paediatric wards, and outpatient clinics, including outreach to remote communities.
You’ll undertake direct clinical care of patients, supervise and support Registrars and Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) and will be involved in teaching junior medical staff and medical students. There is great opportunity for undertaking safety and quality initiatives, service development and research in fields of interest.
About you
You’re a capable and compassionate clinician committed to improving health outcomes for children. To be successful in this role you will have:
Current registration with Medical Board of Australia or eligible to obtain
Appropriate specialist qualifications from Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent
Demonstrated ability to work in a team and to assume administrative responsibilities.
Demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving rural and Indigenous child health.
Ability to operate flexibility in response to changing clinical, supervisory and roster needs
