About the role

An exciting opportunity to join the resource recovery team as an Outreach Officer is now available.

In this role you will promote the City’s waste and recycling services, programs, and projects in line with the City’s strategic waste objectives by directly engaging the community with high-quality communication and public outreach activities and be responsible for planning and implementing event logistic requirements for the promotion and delivery of engagement and outreach activities to ensure they are delivered on time, safely and reach the target audience effectively.

You will provide tailored responses to proactively solve customer enquiries and requests ensuring the highest professional standard of advice and technical expertise are provided to internal and external customers by maintaining awareness and expertise in relevant resource recovery and waste management practices, issues, and policy.

Contribute to program monitoring, evaluating, reporting and planning, including analysis of site visits, local events, information sessions, presentations, tours, community talks and workshops to educate the community and create behaviour change.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or extensive relevant knowledge and experience in community outreach, engagement and/or education in a relevant field.

Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality outreach education activities or programs that have led to measurable behaviour change within a community.

Well-developed oral, written and presentation communication skills and extensive applicable knowledge of innovative engagement tools, tactics, and technologies.

Excellent customer service skills and strength of character to deal effectively with a diverse range of customers.

Ability to plan, implement and evaluate community outreach education programs and to develop partnerships with residents, community groups, government departments, businesses, NGOs, and industry.

The ability to work outside core hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends as required.

The ability to meet the physical demands of the job and carry out physical activities.

Holds a valid class C drivers’ licence and has or is willing to obtain a current working with children check.

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
