  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $125,693 to $138,510 + super

The Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Skills and Training Project Officer to help manage important training activities for the Local Water Utility sector. It involves implementing a competency framework, working with training providers, and coordinating with stakeholders on training and skills development. The role also supports regional training efforts and shared traineeship opportunities.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor training initiatives to address skill gaps in the Local Water Utility sector.
  • Establish and manage stakeholder relationships across government and training sectors; lead governance frameworks, including advisory committees, to guide implementation and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with training providers to align programs with National Water Package qualifications and evolving national training policies.
  • Support regional partnerships to coordinate traineeships, increase completion rates, and enhance access to training in regional and remote areas.
  • Deliver vocational and competency-based training programs within scope, time, budget, and quality parameters, balancing limited resources and competing priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate project delivery, addressing risks, interdependencies, and quality to ensure intended outcomes and benefits are realised.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders on program implementation, navigating varying viewpoints, expectations, and policy changes.
  • Analyse and apply national policy developments to resolve complex issues related to training content and delivery.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Detailed knowledge of the skills, training and workforce challenges impacting vocational education delivery in the Local Water Utility sector.
  • Experience in engaging with local water utility sector stakeholders on training and learning and development.
  • Experience in planning and implementing measures to address learning and development issues in the local water utility sector

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification, or working towards completion of tertiary qualification, in policy, science, engineering, education, learning and development or other relevant discipline and/or demonstrated experience in learning and development, or vocational education and training role
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or similar qualification or experience in the development of vocational and workplace training packages
  • NSW Driver’s licence and ability and willingness to travel overnight as required
