About the Organisation
NPA Family and Community Services ATSI Corporation (NPAFACS) is a government funded, not-for-profit organisation situated in the scenic town of Bamaga at the very tip of Cape York Peninsula.
The organisation is focused on improving the wellbeing and self-esteem of the community's Indigenous residents. NPAFACS also addresses a range of social issues; and domestic and family violence, child abuse and child neglect, drug and alcohol abuse, youth suicide, youth crime, teenage pregnancy and family conflicts.
NPAFACS is dedicated to providing support and encouragement to individuals & families to take control of their lives, to develop their lifestyles with positive outcomes as well as acting as an advocate for women, children, men and family units.
About Life in Bamaga
Find a new, relaxed way of life in the tropical beauty of Bamaga! Situated in Far North Queensland, just 25km from the tip of Cape York Peninsula and 900km north of Cairns, Bamaga is the administrative and retail centre of the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA).
The main centre for the 2,500 people of the five nearby Islander and Aboriginal communities, Bamaga is a well serviced and close-knit neighbourhood, offering residents everything you'd expect in a large country town - schools, a supermarket, hospital, post office, service station/ workshop, childcare services, clothing store, hotel, snack bar, bakery, and a thrift store.

Fishing and boating are major recreational pastimes on the stunning Jardine River, and the many local coastal reefs and islands. About the Opportunity
NPAFACS is looking for a Counsellor to manage staff of the FWB, Playgroup, Child Counselling and Intensive Family Support programs. To coordinate the day to day link between children and families as they interface with Department of Child Safety, and to ensure that there is a culturally appropriate case management plan articulated and implemented with each child and/or family engaged by FWB. To ensure that playgroup sessions and parenting group sessions are planned and executed in a culturally safe and stimulating way.
This position is currently funded for 12 months with a possible extension.
While a Bachelor/Masters of Social Work is desirable for this position, it is not essential if the applicant has previous experience or other qualifications in counselling or similar or a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and families is preferable.
Ideally, the successful candidate will also have previous experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, demonstrated understanding of the impact of social issues on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families.
This position requires that the applicant has no criminal history, a current driver's licence, and possession of a Working with Children Blue Card.
Additionally, the applicant should have a sound level of computer literacy, to maintain electronic client files and database systems.

In return for your hard work and dedication, the successful applicant will enjoy an above award salary $98,108.40 (dependent on experience and qualifications) plus super. Furthermore, you will have the option of salary sacrifice arrangements to increase your take-home pay.
Fully-furnished two-bedroom air-conditioned accommodation is provided with the position at $85/per week and NPAFACS will cover relocation costs of up to $3,000.
What you will receive:
12 Month Fixed Term Contract with a possible extension
20 days paid annual leave including 17.5% loading
10 days personal/ carers leave
Approx. 10 days over the Christmas closure period
5 days of remote leave and $2000 Travel Entitlement
