The Northern Midlands Council are seeking applications from a suitably qualified and experienced person to lead the operations of our three municipal aquatic centres located in Campbell Town, Cressy and Ross over the upcoming season. The successful candidate must hold a current Pool Lifeguard qualification at minimum.

The position will be offered on a permanent part-time basis, 25 to 30 hours per week, for a fixed term period from August 2025 to April 2026. The role will be based in Longford, but will work across all 3 facilities, including working as an active lifeguard during pool season.

About the role

As the Aquatic Operations Coordinator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic oversight of Council’s aquatic centres. This includes ensuring the safe operation of pool plant and equipment, maintaining water quality, coordinating lifeguard teams, and delivering a high standard of customer service.

You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and community committees to ensure the facilities are safe, welcoming, and compliant with all relevant legislation and Council policies.

Prior to season commencement, this role will be responsible for preparation for the upcoming season, including reviewing operations and training documentation, assisting with recruitment activities for lifeguards, and pre-season compliance operations.

During the pool operating season, this role requires availability across a 7-day roster, including regular weekend work and on-call responsibilities during pool operating hours.

You will be responsible for:

Oversee the daily operations of aquatic centres at Campbell Town, Cressy, and Ross.

Ensure compliance with the Public Health Act and RLSSA Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations.

Manage and maintain pool plant, equipment, and water chemistry with the assistance of Council's building and maintenance staff.

Lead, train, and supervise lifeguards and cashiering staff.

Perform Lifeguard duties as part of the standard lifeguard team roster.

Coordinate pool bookings, events, and user group requirements.

Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and manuals.

Monitor and manage operational budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Ensure WHS compliance and lead emergency response procedures.

Liaise with Council’s Works, WH&S, and Building & Maintenance teams.

Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for management and Council.

About you

We are looking for a confident and capable leader with a strong background in aquatic facility management and a passion for community service.

You will be a self-motivated person who shows initiative, can problem solve and has good time management skills. In addition, you will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

To be considered for the role, you must:

Have a current RLSA Pool Lifeguard qualification

Have a Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People clearance (Employment Class)

Have a current Australian Drivers Licence

Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or have Australian right-to-work visa conditions for 25 or more hours up to or beyond April 2026

Be willing to undertake a Pre-employment Medical including Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment and urine Drug & Alcohol testing

We are seeking application from candidates who ideally have:

been working as a lifeguard or duty manager in an aquatic centre environment for no less than 3 years

demonstrated experience managing teams and coordinating rosters

a strong understanding of pool safety standards

have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Previous experience with Council or community-based aquatic programs, and a knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines will be advantageous.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Northern Midlands Council Enterprise Agreement. This role has been classified as Municipal Employee Level 7 which is an hourly rate of $33.4195 per hour, which is a full-time equivalent salary of $66,037. The annual salary will be dependent on the part-time hours agreed with the successful candidate.
