We have an exciting opportunity for a Cook at our Atherton service. Say good-bye to late nights and split shifts and say hello to making nutritious meals for our clients to support independent living in the local community. This role starts early (6am) and finishes around 2pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday giving you the remainder of the day to yourself and no weekend work.

Atherton is a kitchen producing around 150 meals per day for clients. This role will work closely with the Assistant Cook and volunteers to prepare, portion and pack meals for our clients.

Meals on Wheels has operated successfully in the Aged Care Sector for over 65 years and now provides services to many others in our communities including NDIS participants.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, values-based Cook who will work closely with our administration team and volunteers to deliver more than just a meal to our clients. The ideal person has over 5 years of experience as a cook, preferably in the Aged Care sector and is very familiar with creating meals around allergies, dietary requirements and texture modified needs.

The purpose of this position is to provide high quality, nutritious and affordable meals to Meals on Wheels clients and/or other Meals on Wheels services as needed. This role is expected to provide leadership to kitchen volunteers including providing instruction and support. The successful candidate will also be familiar with Food Safety requirements and Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.

In this role you will be responsible for

Daily preparation of hot/chilled/frozen meals including special dietary requirements such as texture modified meals.

Compliance with the Food Safety Program, including supervision of accurate completion of all Food Safety Records, providing training to volunteers and staff regarding Food Safety Standards.

Ensure kitchen is clean and hygienic in line with the Food Safety Plan and that working conditions for staff and volunteers in the kitchen is safe.

Identify and coordinate any maintenance requirements of equipment in the kitchen.

About You

Must hold a qualification and/or experience in a commercial kitchen preferably catering for people with specific nutritional requirements and/or allergies.

Must be Food Safety Supervisor Accredited and have a First Aid Certificate or a willingness to obtain one.

Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team with strong communication skills.

Ability to plan, work and manage time with minimal supervision and under pressure, including the ability to discern priorities, plan ahead and coordinate with others to complete tasks.

Salary sacrifice is available plus 17.5% leave loading on annual leave. $34.46 per hour with a car.
