We are on the hunt for an experienced administrator with that special mix of care and attention to the smallest of details, exceptional professional writing skills, initiative, ability to carefully upwardly manage, and passion for governance. Does that sound like you?
Continuing our strong and supportive relationship with the ACT Law Society, we are excited to give you the opportunity to elevate your administrative experience and take on a varied role that will be as demanding as it will be rewarding.
The ACT Law Society represents a large membership base and works hard to represent, advance and defend the interests of an independent legal profession in the ACT, while also protecting the public interest in the ACT justice system. Governed by The Council, they possess a strong ongoing commitment to effective governance and professional conduct. They operate as a small but highly committed team of staff all tied to the mission of advocating for the profession on behalf of their members and are led by a committed and loyal CEO who has just entered their sixth year in the role and is looking for an experienced professional administrator to support the effective governance of the Council and Society, while also supporting the day-to-day demands of the Office of the CEO.
That is where you come in. You are that professional administrator looking to provide exceptional support across governance and executive operations.
Let’s start with the role. What will the position be responsible for?
The functions will broadly float across the provision of executive support, directly supporting both the CEO and Council President through a range of tasks that straddle everything from inbox management and scheduling to supporting the CEO in monitoring and coordinating strategic initiatives.
This will include the support and coordination of the Council, Executive Committee and General Meetings, a responsibility that will have you expertly juggling an ongoing cycle of secretariat duties, managing multiple meetings each month, while expertly tracking ongoing action items by using your professional stakeholder engagement skills. This professional approach will also extend to the administration, support and oversight of action items for internal staff meetings.
In between the juggle of these two key functions, you will also be generally responsible for the ongoing day-to-day management of this small office environment, communicating with staff on behalf of the CEO and assisting with workflow and output.
Yes, we agree. It is an exciting and varied role. What an opportunity! Here is what we are looking for in our perfect candidate.
Of course, our perfect candidate brings a demonstrated career in administration and executive support. However, with this experience we are also looking for an extremely professional presentation in every interaction. You will need to be able to present publicly to support the CEO, President and Society with a confident and credible demeanour and an exceptionally well-developed writing style that will see you confidently responding to queries on behalf of the CEO and President with both accuracy and professionalism.
Your true superpower will be in your commitment to the smallest of detail and ability to pre-empt the expectations and needs of your executive in every aspect. Of course this is something that takes time to develop, but you respect the need to build trust with every interaction and see the value in developing a truly professional and trusted relationship over time through evidence and supportive interactions.
An interest in the legal sector – yes it helps, but it is not essential. Instead, an interest in good governance practices that will enable you to further enhance the policies and procedures required to enable the Society to achieve its mission will be far more powerful.
Finally, if you haven’t quite got it yet, professionalism is critical. While this work environment is relaxed, at times very fun and tight knit, when it comes to serving your members you are working with a sector that is high profile, filled with history and tradition, and incredibly important when it comes to upholding the justice system of the ACT. The legal profession demands a certain level of commitment from those within, and this role is absolutely part of that ecosystem.
The role is exciting, but there are some important additional benefits that set this employer apart from the rest.
Firstly, the work week is officially 35 hours per week for a full-time equivalent. This enables each employee to achieve a true work life balance. Flexibility operates effectively in this team environment, with the expectation that both employee and employer have the approach that they will be available for important meetings and events as required. However, this is matched with a genuine commitment to the demands of juggling family and personal commitments.
The salary for this position is set at $95,000 plus super per annum. There is scope for more of a part-time arrangement to suit school hours or 4 days a week, however given the nature of the work this will need to come with flexibility when it comes to administering Council and Committee meetings that do regularly occur out of hours at set times.
In addition, every employee of the Society is provided with additional leave over the Christmas shut-down period, along with two wellbeing days per annum.
To top all of this off, you get to work in brand-new offices with state-of-the-art facilities to make you feel like you are walking into a top-tier law firm each day.
This role is all about the perfect fit with the CEO. Please send in your application today and be sure to include not only a CV detailing your relevant experience but also a cover letter that show me who you are, how your operate and why you see yourself as the perfect professional match for this role.
Please apply today. If you do need more information reach out to Alex Elliott at [email protected] or on 0468 554 655 for a confidential discussion.
Applications you will be assessed as they are submitted, Interviews with the ACT Law Society will take place in the first week of July. The earlier you apply, the better your chance so don’t delay!
