Premier Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Practice Full-Time Position | Competitive Compensation Package

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Oral Surgery Specialist RN to join our high-volume oral and maxillofacial surgery practice. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading surgeon/s in complex procedures including orthognathic surgery, dental implants, dental procedures, trauma reconstruction, and advanced oral pathology cases. This position will require you to work across several work environments, including in Cannon Hill, Sunnybank and Ipswich, hospitals and clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Excellence:

Assist in complex oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures

Manage perioperative patient care in our surgical suites

Coordinate with anaesthesia teams for conscious sedation and general anaesthesia cases

Maintain sterile fields and handle specialised surgical instrumentation

Coordinate all administrative requirements for cases performed in hospital settings

Clinical Expertise:

Perform pre-operative assessments and post-operative monitoring

Experience working in operating theatres and recovery units

Assist with general anaesthetic, local anaesthetic and sedation procedures

Manage emergency situations and post-surgical complications

Educate patients on surgical procedures and recovery protocols

A four-week work cycle that is dynamic and changing

Provision and coordination of care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care

Monitoring outcomes and initiating/advocating changes to processes and practices

Participating in the review, development and implementation of relevant policies, procedures and clinical protocols

· Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment

· Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care and education

· Monitor patient vital signs and respond appropriately to clinical changes

Administrative & Coordination:

· Support your surgeon in task completion, both clinically and administratively

· Coordinate and manage theatre lists across multiple locations

· Schedule surgical procedures and manage appointment bookings

· Liaise with patients, referring practitioners, and theatre staff

· Maintain accurate patient records and documentation

· Coordinate with anaesthetists, specialists, and support staff

· Manage inventory and ordering of surgical supplies and medications

Technical Operations:

Operate and maintain advanced surgical equipment and monitoring systems

Document surgical procedures and maintain detailed clinical records

Coordinate with surgical scheduling and case management teams

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control standards

An ability to cross roles and support your team in patient care tasks within the organisation

Emphasis on technology proficiency and adaptability to alternative patient record keeping

Required Qualifications

Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)

Minimum 2 years surgical or perioperative nursing experience

BLS or ACLS certification (required)

Current CPR certification (required)

Experience with IV insertion and conscious sedation preferred

Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail

Ability to remain calm under pressure in emergency situations

Leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to lead and mentor staff

Demonstrated advanced interpersonal and communication skills

Strong problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate management and workloads

Strong knowledge of continuous improvement process, coupled with the proven ability to initiate, coordinate and evaluate quality improvement measures

Experience in oral surgery, plastic surgery, ENT or trauma settings

Knowledge of maxillofacial anatomy and surgical procedures

· Knowledge of dental terminology and procedures
