The Role
An opportunity exists for an experienced health administrator to become the non-ongoing APS5 Practice Manager of a health facility delivering services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) members at RAAF Base East Sale, Victoria. This is a dynamic role, working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of the facility and be directly responsible for managing a wide range of administrative and coordination activities to ensure the provision of high quality health care.
These duties can include managing workforce rosters, budget allocations, and workplace health and safety requirements, as well as conducting governance and quality assurance activities.
Another key aspect of this role is leading a small team and engaging with other relevant stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for ADF members. Effective communication skills are essential.
This recruitment process is being used to fill a non-ongoing position for 6 months. A merit pool of suitable applicants may be established following the conclusion of this recruitment process and used to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing roles across the Department over the next 18 months.
About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service.
Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS5 Practice Manager position is part of Joint Health Unit - Victoria/Tasmania and is based at RAAF Base East Sale, East Sale, Victoria. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in-patient care.
The JHC workforce is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We work together to manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year.
This position reports to the East Sale Health Centre Manager.
Our Ideal Candidate
An enthusiastic self-starter, our ideal candidate will have experience in managing a health care facility and be confident in working independently. They must demonstrate sound judgment and clinical knowledge to make decisions that are in the best interests of the patient and that comply with legislation, regulatory frameworks and Defence policies.
As a team leader, they must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. They must be able to develop productive relationships with various stakeholders both internal and external to Defence. The ability to foster a service focused and positive work culture is essential in ensuring that all team members are working towards shared objectives.
The ideal candidate must be flexible and adaptable. They will be comfortable with managing change and responding to short notice tasks. They will have the ability to anticipate, identify, and respond to changing priorities. They will also be committed to ongoing professional development for both themselves and their team, and be prepared to mentor and train junior team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
