Our Branch – City Planning and Design
City Planning and Design (CPD) Branch is responsible for the strategic direction of the future planning and shaping of Brisbane through the development of the City Plan, local plans, city and suburban projects, supporting infrastructure, long-term economic growth and planning modules.
The Role
As the senior member in the team, you will provide landscape architecture advice on urban design, site planning, and landscape management, for complex development applications in line with relevant legislation and Council policy. An opportunity to supervise, coach and mentor team members, promoting effective landscape architectural management and facilitating professional development.
You will be required to prepare and present submissions, including recommendations, with reasonable and relevant conditions, for external and internal customers and committees. In your day-to-day work, you will assess development applications made to Council against City Plan 2014 and other relevant planning policy and legislation. You will identify opportunities for improved outcomes and will be required to prepare and present submissions, including recommendations, with reasonable and relevant conditions, for external and internal customers and committees.
You will continually utilise, apply and draw upon your negotiation, influencing and decision-making abilities to ensure compliant outcomes are achieved which are suitable for their context and aligned with Council’s strategic intent for a Clean, Green and Resilient City and show cases Brisbane’s Outstanding Lifestyle.
As a Senior Landscape Architect, you will work with the Principal Landscape Architect and help to ensure timeframes and deliverables are met across the team and help you will help to deliver the broader vision of Design Brisbane.
About the team
The Design Review Landscape Architecture Team sits within Design Brisbane section of City Planning and Design. We are design specialists who promote high quality design outcomes for Brisbane and our vision is aligned with the values outlined in Council’s Design-led City Strategy. We work with our program partners in Urban Design, Neighbourhood Planning and City Planning and Operations to identify opportunities for our subtropical city.
To be successful you will have:
- demonstrated experience in landscape architecture and open space management principles
- demonstrated experience in the assessment of development applications in complex and legislated environments
- experience in developing and maintaining strong and influential relationships in large complex organisations
- developed interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate with diverse stakeholders
- strong understanding of current relevant legislation, and awareness of Council policy
- a C class drivers’ licence is mandatory for this role
- eligibility to join ALIA, as a tertiary qualified landscape architect.
