Working closely with program and delivery teams in state and territory branches – this important role is critical in ensuring the voices of serving and ex serving ADF members and their families are heard and acted upon at a national level.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of advocacy, policy development and system reform. Working in a dynamic and fast paced environment, you will contribute to strategic stakeholder engagement, collaborating to drive meaningful improvements in the defence and veteran system.
You will collect and amplify the insights of veterans and veteran service providers through the RSL State Branches, lead engagement initiatives, coordinate National policy submissions. You will apply sound analytics and the ability to synthesise complex and diverse materials into compelling briefs and presentations to make the case for change.
In this role, you will:
Engage with RSL State branches, and other ESOs to gather insights into barriers to effective service delivery and opportunities for improvement.
Facilitate policy discussions to ensure veteran voices shape the National policy agenda.
Undertake analysis and integration of insights from engagement with State Branches and other ESOs into reports that succinctly articulate the insights and priorities identified.
Coordinate high-quality policy submissions, briefing papers, and advocacy materials.
Monitor sector developments, including legislation and regulatory reform.
Collaborate with RSLAs Marketing and Communications team to share advocacy updates and veterans perspectives and update policy content on the website.
Provide secretariat support for the National Veterans' Affairs Committee
About you
You are passionate about advocating for systemic change and empowering veterans to have a voice. You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, balancing system review and analysis, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. You have:
Proven policy experience, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing policy submissions, briefing documents and advocacy materials.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships and navigate complexity with government and community partners.
Great time management and professional discipline, and the ability to work autonomously, while contributing to a collaborative team to deliver shared priorities and outcomes.
A strong understanding of defence and veteran services (desirable).
Part-time hours would be considered for suitable candidate.
