The Maintenance and Calibration Technician is responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing equipment and production facilities are kept in compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements and are maintained in a safe and operational state.
This includes but is not limited to: Cleanrooms, Sterilisation Areas, Production Rooms, Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS), Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Distribution Systems, Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC), Compressed Air Systems, Fire Suppression Systems and Medical Gases.

- Ensure maximum availability and safety of manufacturing equipment and services
- Undertake scheduled maintenance and calibration of manufacturing equipment and services in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Take ownership in resolving unscheduled (breakdown) tasks relating to plant and equipment and address product yield related issues resulting from plant and equipment failures
- Collaborate and support other business needs by completing Service Portal requests assigned to the Maintenance and Calibration (M&C) Department
- Coordinate and supervise the execution of minor and medium level Project Work Plans under the guidance of the Production Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor
- Provide technical information and advice to internal customers including Production and Engineering teams
Accountabilities:
Accountability 1: Technical
- Plan and execute maintenance & calibration activities to schedule and in accordance with the Maintenance and Calibration Procedure
- Ensure manufacturing equipment and production facilities are maintained in compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements
- Resolve manufacturing equipment and production facilities issues in a timely and cross-functional manner
- Ensure manufacturing equipment and production facility issues are communicated in accordance with the Maintenance and Calibration Escalation Procedure
- Undertake technical training, both internal and external, as per requirements
- Liaise with internal customers and external contractors to ensure timely performance of duties
Accountability 2: Documentation
- Awareness of the requirement for Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) and the ability to recognise when an NCR is required
- Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner, accurately and completely in accordance with the QMS (Quality Management System)
- Actively review Tool Record instructions when undertaking Maintenance and Calibration tasks
- Review Tool Records and other Maintenance and Calibration documentation as required to ensure continuous improvement opportunities are always pursued
Accountability 3: WHS Responsibilities
- Work safely by having a pro-active safety attitude in all actions performed by applying awareness, sound risk assessment practices and the use of Isolation and Tag Out Procedures
- Perform all work duties in a manner that ensures the health and safety of all employees
- Immediately reporting all incidents, accidents, hazards or unsafe work conditions to management
- Participation in incident investigations as required
- Assist in corrective actions following Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) audits
- Ensure all works performed by external contractors are in accordance with the Contractor and Works Management Procedure
- Undertake safety related training, both internal and external, as per legislative requirements
- Understand the company’s emergency response and evacuation procedures
Accountability 4: Departmental Responsibilities
- Production and product development operations
- Safety, ergonomic, and environmental initiatives
- In-house and contract facility maintenance organisations
- Assist the Maintenance and Calibration Department in meeting business expectations by continually achieving against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Actively manage M&C spare parts & consumables
- Assist with procurement of materials / spare parts and equipment in accordance with Procurement Policy
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Provide advice on technical issues both within and beyond the Maintenance and Calibration Department including:
- Act as a mentor to other M&C Technicians and Production Team Members
- Participate in shift work, overtime, on-call and call-back arrangements as required and as per the M&C Payroll Procedure
Team Role (Individual Contributor):
Follow relevant quality procedures in order to deliver quality products and services; and identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement. Undertake additional quality responsibilities (e.g. audit) when appropriately trained to undertake these tasks
Contribute ideas on systems and process methods to improve deliverables
Work safely, complying with all safety procedures, rules and instructions; and reporting workplace hazards, incidents or injuries to manager
Be motivated, proactive and self-guided in problem solving and conscious of the importance of achieving expedient outcomes
Key Incumbent Requirements:
Minimum:
Certificate of Competency / Proficiency issued by a registered and accredited AS/NZ training organisation
Possess proven abilities in the maintenance and calibration of specialised manufacturing equipment and test systems
Experience working in a Planned Maintenance environment
Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical information
Ideal:
Previous experience in a similar role
Recognised trade qualified (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical/Fitting, Tool Making)
Post trade qualifications to a higher Engineering level (Advanced Certificate, Diploma of Engineering)
Cross trade qualifications (Dual Trade Qualified, Restricted Electrical License, Fluid Power)
Restricted Electrical License (experience of manufacturing electrics)
Read and understand schematic drawings for electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic circuits
Experience in a medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
Experience with using Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience working within a Quality Management System
Exposure to TPM and RCM or similar methodologies
Experience managing external suppliers and contractors
Experience mentoring team members
