Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
St John of God Subiaco Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the speciality of Anaesthetics. At St John of God Subiaco Hospital we have 17 main operating theatres and one birth suite theatre. In addition, we have two cardiovascular intervention labs, an endoscopy unit with 4 procedure rooms, a surgical same day unit with 3 theatres and a standalone Eye Hospital with 3 theatres. We employ the latest in surgical technology, including robotics, and work with some of the highest calibre surgeons in Australia.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for the delivery of patient centred care within their area of specialty to achieve optimal patient outcomes within allocated resources whilst supporting and promoting the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care (SJGHC).
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Deputy Director of Nursing the Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for improving and maintaining standards, developing solutions and delivering outcomes consistent with service and organisational imperatives and targets. This includes the provision of leadership, clinical performance monitoring, policy review and development, development and delivery of clinical education, implementing changes to clinical practice and initiating research and quality improvement activities.
The Position
- Maintains advanced clinical skills and provides direct clinical care in the area of specialty practice.
- Incorporates Evidence Based Nursing Practice into patient care and leadership responsibilities.
- Acts as a resource in planning, implementing and evaluating care for patients.
- Facilitates the provision of advanced and complex patient care within the area of specialty, working in partnership with the patient, their family, the interdisciplinary team and external service providers.
- Provides specialized training and education resources to the broader multidisciplinary team to support best practice care delivery in the area of specialty practice.
- Evaluates the quality of practice in area of specialty using key performance/best practice indicators, national and international benchmarking.
- Identifies unsafe care practices and implements corrective action in collaboration with others as required.
- Maintains an intentional and dedicated focus on patient safety, person centred care and experience at all times.
- Demonstrates leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills and change management capability reflective of a culture of professional accountability and quality service.
- Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships with accredited Medical Practitioners.
- Actively participates in all relevant clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the hospital.
- Serves as a resource and mentor of evidence-based practice through role modelling and support of Nursing and Midwifery practice.
You will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse with significant knowledge, experience and leadership in the specialty of Anaesthetics.
To succeed you will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills and a knowledge of relevant legislation and professional standards including Nurses Act, Code of Conduct, Work Health & Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity.

- Salary: $125,296 plus 11.5% superannuation
- Permanent full-time position, working 38 hours per week
