This is a newly created, high-impact role offering the opportunity to design, implement, and embed a best-practice Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) management system across Nexus Hospitals nationally.

Reporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and hospital leaders across Nexus. This is a part-time position (approximately 24 hours per week) where you will play a pivotal role in shaping a proactive and positive safety culture across all our day hospitals.

You will provide both strategic leadership and practical, hands-on support—working directly with clinicians, managers, and support teams to drive meaningful change and deliver measurable safety outcomes.

While the position is ideally based in Melbourne, applications from candidates located in Brisbane or Sydney will also be considered for the right candidate.

Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and standards (including ISO 45001).

Outstanding communication, influence, and engagement skills across diverse and decentralised teams.

Experience in developing and delivering WHS training and cultural change programs.

Desirable: Experience in day hospital or private healthcare environments.

Key responsibilities include:

1. WHS System Development & Implementation

Manage WHS audits, inspections, and investigations; ensure findings are addressed and improvements embedded.

3. Safety Leadership & Culture

Act as a visible leader and role model for WHS excellence, engaging with staff across all levels.

Develop and deliver education and communication strategies to build WHS awareness, ownership, and positive safety behaviours.

Support managers and site leaders to embed safety practices into daily operations.

4. Incident & Risk Management

Lead investigations into serious incidents and near misses using root cause analysis and human factors methodologies.

Drive continuous improvement through trend analysis and targeted prevention programs.

Oversee contractor and third-party WHS management processes.

5. Reporting & Analytics
