The Role
This is a broad, end-to-end People & Culture Manager role, providing comprehensive, best-practice HR support and guidance to both management and staff. You’ll report directly to the executive team and oversee the following areas:
- Workplace relations
- Industrial relations
- OH&S
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a team of three direct reports and providing regular guidance on their individual projects and priorities
- Reviewing and evaluating HR strategies, policies, and plans to align with business needs
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies related to workplace relations
- Undertaking Award interpretation and providing expert advice on industrial relations matters
- Maintaining and optimising the functionality of the HRIS to meet business needs
- Leading the People & Culture team to deliver on business objectives
- Advising on recruitment, selection practices, performance management, and employee development
- Representing the organisation with external stakeholders, including unions and safety representatives
- Managing injury reports and return-to-work coordination, including notifications to the relevant state authority
- Providing HR data and analytics to support executive decision-making
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with statutory obligations, regulations, codes, and policies
- Collaborating with managers and staff to maintain a safe, injury-free workplace
- Present findings and HR related matters at quarterly board meetings
This is a permanent role based in the CBD with two days per week from home. It offers flexibility to work either four or five days per week based on the candidate’s preference.
The position combines hands-on responsibilities with strategic leadership and offers exposure to a wide range of stakeholders across the business. It’s an ideal opportunity for an experienced HR professional seeking variety, autonomy, and meaningful impact in a supportive environment.
The Candidate
We’re looking for a People & Culture professional who meets most or all of the following criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a P&C or HR Manager role
- Ideally a degree or higher qualification in a human resource or related discipline
- Extensive experience working with, introducing or analysing EBA's and awards (knowledge of the health services award would be particularly beneficial)
- Previous experience managing staff, ideally including team leaders with their own direct reports
- Experience within the public sector is desirable but not essential
- Background in an end-to-end HR role within a mid-sized organisation
- Comfortable commuting to the Melbourne CBD
- Exposure to industrial relations and OH&S responsibilities
- Confident, calm communication style
- Ability to balance strategic input with hands-on, day-to-day responsibilities
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms
- Experience interacting with board members and/or senior leadership executives
