Your Role
Better Futures is a new way of supporting care leavers, engaging with young people and their support networks, including case managers and care teams early in their transition from care, and supporting young people across five service areas, housing and living skills, education, employment, health and well being and community connections.
The Better Futures Community Connector identifies pathways, resources and relationships within the Community that can support young people to realise their aspirations, develop their strengths and achieve their goals. This role is key in creating links between young people leaving care and services in their communities and supports Better Futures Workers as a secondary consult to create and foster community connections which include supporting pathways to accommodation. This role involves networking, building relationships, collaborating with the MDAS Service Providers and the greater community
The Better Futures Community Connector does not provide case work but plays a key role in the young person’s Better Futures Care Team, along with their Better Futures worker or the young person’s Case Manager, if the young person is in care.
Key Selection Criteria
Demonstrated ability to solve problems based on operational knowledge and experience, scanning for useful information, looking for underlying causes and suggesting alternative actions for clients and staff.
Demonstrated ability to work well within others in the pursuit of team goals and share information.
Experience in communicating and negotiating with a broad range of people both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people at all levels to achieve broad project objectives and goals
A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and Values and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people.
High level of written, verbal and computer skills.
Qualification/s:
A tertiary qualification and relevant experience in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work or another relevant field.
Other Screening Requirements:
Valid Drivers License that allows you to drive in Australia.
Victorian Employee Working with Children Check card.
National Police Check.
