The Business

The Traditional Owners of the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area formed Warddeken Land Management Ltd. in 2007. Warddeken is an Aboriginal owned, not-for-profit company that combines traditional ecological knowledge with Western science to manage and protect one of Australia’s most unique environments.

Operating from remote homeland communities in west Arnhem Land, we provide employment for hundreds of Indigenous people who engage in vital projects, including fire management, carbon abatement, weed and feral animal control, rock art and ecological conservation, and cultural heritage management.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead and strengthen the way Warddeken tracks and communicates its impact across one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous Protected Areas. As the MERI Coordinator, you’ll support Bininj (Traditional Owner) leadership by working closely with the WAKADJAKA subcommittee and coordinating how strategic priorities are monitored, evaluated and improved over time.

You’ll collaborate with rangers, project teams, researchers, and the leadership team to ensure data and stories from the field are collected, understood and used to guide decision-making. From facilitating bush meetings to compiling progress reports and developing practical data systems, your work will help shape how the organisation plans, learns, and grows.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role for someone who values Indigenous-led conservation, has strong coordination and communication skills, and is confident working across cultures in remote environments.

The location based in Darwin with regular remote travel in the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area and surrounds . Significant remote travel is expected with this position and a 4WD will be available for work purposes only.
