What you'll be doing
Are you passionate about leading improvements in healthy eating and physical activity and reducing screen time for children 0-5 years?

WSLHD Health Promotion is seeking a temporary part time (8 hours per week) Senior Health Promotion Officer to job share with our current Early Years Coordinator. You will work together to lead, manage and support the strategic direction and operations of programs relating to the early years. The role will involve shared management of the western Sydney implementation of the state-wide Munch and Move program including line management of 4 health promotion officers.

To improve the health and wellbeing of western Sydney children in their First 2000 days, and the environments in which they live, learn and play, in line with the Ministry of Health and Western Sydney Local Health District’s (WSLHD) goals, principles and strategic priorities.

The Early Years Coordinator will achieve this by building partnerships with local stakeholders and supporting the Early Years team to meet key performance indicators associated with the Early Years, particularly local implementation and adoption of the state-wide Munch & Move in Early Childhood Education and Care Services and with Family Day Care Service Providers.

A key role of the position will be to ensure programs are relevant to the needs of the western Sydney population. The Early Years Coordinator will contribute to increasing the appropriateness and effectiveness of Population Health services and programs for the whole community including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse and disadvantaged communities.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualification: Tertiary qualifications in health or related field.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Education, Population Health, Health Promotion, Public Health or other health related fields.
  2. Demonstrated high level project management skills including the ability to plan, implement, evaluate, performance monitor and report on the outcomes of evidence-informed programs.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate and provide leadership to a team to deliver population focused health promotion outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and negotiate with internal and external partners to facilitate and deliver collaborative action to achieve successful program implementation and sustainability
  5. Demonstrated high level organisation skills, oral and written communication skills, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to understand and work with, and within, a range of systems, sectors and agencies to implement change.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of equity as a principle for underpinning program planning and implementation and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context, particularly with members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and Culturally & Linguistically Diverse communities.
  8. Current unrestricted Australian driver’s license.
