Are you passionate about renewable energy and community engagement? We are looking for a Community Relations Advisor to join our team in the Pilbara region. This role is crucial in fostering positive relationships with our local stakeholders and ensuring our renewable energy projects benefit the community.
As the Community Relations Advisor, you’ll play a key part in managing the social impacts of our operations, building strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring our work on the ground reflects our values and commitments.
Reporting to the Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, this role plays a critical part in supporting the company’s social license to operate in the communities in which YEC’s projects are located.
This role is all about building strong relationships, coordinating meaningful initiatives, and ensuring our activities are aligned with our values and obligations. From engaging with Traditional Owners and local stakeholders to tracking social impact and supporting community partnerships—you’ll be right at the heart of it.
About Us
Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) is a partnership between Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) and international renewable energy company, ACEN Corporation (ACEN).
Representing one of the largest Indigenous-led renewable energy initiatives in Australia, YEC will see the Yindjibarndi people and ACEN work together to develop wind, solar, and renewable energy storage projects on Yindjibarndi Ngurra (country) – an area covering approximately 13,000 km2 within the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Areas in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The partnership agreement between the Yindjibarndi and ACEN includes principles ensuring Yindjibarndi approval of all proposed project sites on Yindjibarndi Ngurra, Yindjibarndi equity participation of 25% - 50% in all constructed projects, preferred contracting for Yindjibarndi-owned businesses, and training and employment opportunities for Yindjibarndi people.
ACEN is the listed energy platform of the Ayala Group. The company has ~5,300 MW of capacity in the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, USA and Australia. The company’s renewable share of capacity is at 87%, among the highest in the region. ACEN Australia is the platform representing ACEN’s renewable energy assets in Australia. It includes several solar, wind, battery and pumped hydro projects across New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia in development and construction.
Job Description
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, you will be responsible for:
Developing, implementing, and tracking inclusive community engagement initiatives.
Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, Traditional Owners, and Indigenous groups.
Planning stakeholder engagement activities and recording stakeholder engagement outcomes
Serving as the first point of contact for community inquiries and issues.
Monitoring and reporting on stakeholder sentiment and emerging risks.
Collaborating with internal teams to address stakeholder concerns.
Developing and managing culturally appropriate project information materials.
Supporting the Social Investment Program, including governance and reporting.
Assisting in the management of social media accounts and digital presence.
Coordinating company participation in industry, government, and community events.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in communications, social impact, community engagement or similar
Minimum of five years of experience in community engagement or a similar role.
Experience in delivering social sustainability strategies and community partnership programs
Experience delivering stakeholder communications programs
Experience in front line community relations
Experience working in Indigenous communities or on matters related to Indigenous impact or advancement
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with the MS Office suite of applications; high level of general computer/online literacy
Professional, ethical, tolerant/welcoming of diversity, self-motivated and aligned with YEC’s values
