We support people across Western Australia who experience financial hardship, family domestic violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect, and risk of homelessness. Building resilience, providing access to safety and social justice, and driving positive social change through advocacy, education, and legal advice. With offices in Midland and Ellenbrook, we support people in the community with no-cost legal services, disability advocacy, financial counselling, tenancy advocacy, and information and referrals.
About You
Midlas is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Legal Assistant to join our growing team. Working with Midlas’ Legal Services, the Legal Assistant will collaborate with the reception and Legal Assistant team and be responsible for delivering quality legal administrative services across Midlas’ sites and services.
About the role
The role will include the following duties but not limited to:
Assisting with the scheduling of legal appointments across our legal service, including the management of waitlists.
Ensuring compliance with best practice, conflict checks and record keeping.
Being the first point of contact for incoming queries and requests.
Monitoring and maintaining email accounts, appointment calendars, client databases and matter tracking systems.
Assisting with the preparation and organisation of client files.
Assisting in the training of new staff and volunteers in general administrative processes.
Providing relief for the Midlas reception as required.
Providing general administrative support to the Principal Solicitor and legal team.

Required Education/Licences/Certificates
Possession of a current, unrestricted driver’s license
Possession of a current satisfactory National Police clearance certificate (no older than 3 months from the issue date)
Possession of a Working with Children Check
COVID-19 vaccination certificate
Relevant Experience, Skills/Knowledge & Personal Attributes
Relevant experience working for legal practices or community legal centres will be highly regarded
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex details to people from diverse social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to multitask in a busy office environment
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of integrity and professionalism, and an ability to deal with and maintain highly confidential information
Demonstrated experience to support office functions efficiently and effectively
High level of organisation, time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines
Strong computer literacy, including the ability to learn new systems and platforms
Ability to work with flexible hours in response to business requirements
