The School of Health Sciences and Social Work is renowned for innovation in health education, research, and clinical practice. Job Description

We are seeking an outstanding Speech Pathology academic at Associate Professor (Level D) or Professor (Level E) level as Academic Lead and provide strategic leadership for our Discipline of Speech Pathology. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive research, mentor emerging scholars, and shape our curriculum and practice education in a dynamic and supportive environment.

As the Academic Lead, you will mentor and lead a team of academic speech pathologists in conducting quality research, delivering exceptional teaching, and providing service to the speech pathology profession and the broader community. You will be responsible for ensuring the program maintains accreditation with Speech Pathology Australia. You will help shape the curriculum to reflect contemporary clinical practice, expand research activity in key areas such as (paediatric) disability or speech sound disorders, and foster strong connections with sector partners to enhance student placement and research opportunities. With support from a collaborative team and access to state-of-the-art facilities, this is your opportunity to make a significant and lasting contribution to the speech pathology profession, the university, and the health and wellbeing of communities.

This is a continuing, full time position based primarily at Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Relocation support may be available in accordance with the University’s relocation policy.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary for an Academic Level D ranges from $167,008 - $183,992 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $195,399 - $215,270 per annum.

The full time equivalent base salary for an Academic Level E is $215,130 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be $251,702 per annum.

You will also bring:

  • A PhD in Speech Pathology, with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • A nationally or internationally recognised research profile, with a strong track record of publications and success in securing external funding.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership, including mentoring staff, supervising HDR students to completion, leading research teams or projects, and contributing to program development.
  • Strong networks within the speech pathology profession and allied health sectors.
  • Extensive research and/or teaching expertise in paediatric areas of practice, with experience in disability across the lifespan, highly regarded.
  • As a valued member of the School Senior Leadership Team, you will be expected to make a significant contribution to strategic planning, resource management, workforce planning and capability development, and staff wellbeing and flourishing.
