About the Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA)
The Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) is an Indigenous-controlled, member-based organisation working to ‘Keep the Desert Connected’. Through advocacy, capacity building and collaborative projects, the IDA empowers Indigenous people to care for desert country and achieve their social, cultural, environmental and economic aspirations.
By connecting desert land managers, the IDA creates space for a united voice across Australia’s desert regions.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HR & Administration Manager leads the delivery of people, systems and operational support across the IDA.
You’ll provide high-level HR and ER advice, manage internal systems and policies, and support the performance of the Corporate Services team to ensure the organisation runs efficiently and professionally.
This is a hands-on leadership role offering variety, influence, and the opportunity to shape internal practices that enable the IDA’s broader impact.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver expert HR and ER advice, including recruitment, performance, and industrial matters
- Oversee HR systems, documentation and compliance with relevant legislation
- Lead and manage the Corporate Services team, including workload planning, staff development and performance
- Oversee business systems and administration, supporting IT, project logistics, contracts and suppliers
- Contribute to organisational planning, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
You're a trusted and experienced HR leader who brings:
- Extensive experience in HR and organisational support, ideally in NFP or community-focused settings
- Strong knowledge of HR/ER frameworks, with relevant qualifications
- Excellent time management, attention to detail and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage teams and balance operational and strategic responsibilities
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and cultural awareness
- Experience working with Aboriginal organisations or within remote contexts (highly regarded)
While flexibility is offered, this is a predominantly office-based role due to its hands-on nature.
