About the Company:
Tasmanian Gold Mine is scheduled to restart production with a strong focus on safety, environment, sustainability, and responsible resource development. The phase I mining plan is to restart production for processing tailings, and Phase II is to restart underground production.
Position Overview:
The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the mine site’s environmental management systems, preparing all necessary application documents for EPA approvals. This role ensures compliance with environmental regulations and supports the sustainable development of mining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and maintain the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in accordance with state and federal legislation.
• Monitor environmental performance related to air, water, waste, noise, and rehabilitation.
• Conduct regular site inspections and environmental audits.
• Manage mine waste, tailings storage facilities, and water management systems.
• Coordinate environmental reporting and liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), and local EPA.
• Prepare documentation for environmental approvals, licenses, and permits.
• Oversee rehabilitation and closure planning activities.
• Lead environmental awareness training and site inductions for staff and contractors.
• Support sustainability and ESG initiatives, including carbon reduction strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years’ experience in environmental roles within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of Australian environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience in managing water quality, waste, and tailings in mining environments.
• Proficiency with GIS, environmental monitoring systems, and data analysis tools.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in remote site conditions.
Desirable:
• Experience in gold mining operations.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and mine closure planning frameworks.
• Knowledge of Indigenous engagement practices and cultural heritage compliance.
