About the role

Reporting to the Transport Manager.

We are seeking a dynamic Route Planner to lead and optimise our QLD transport bookings, carriers and last mile deliveries. This role is responsible for the day-to-day, management, and performance of the state network, with a strong focus on profitability, quality, and service excellence. The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker with a proactive, can-do attitude, eager to tackle challenges, drive efficiencies, and elevate our network to best-in-class standards. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all deliveries, ensure the network's financial success, and continuously seek innovative solutions to improve operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities will include:

Plan and optimise daily delivery routes for both home and retail customers across South-East Queensland, based from our Morningside depot.

Ensure full compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, factoring legal load limits, rest breaks, and safe work practices into route plans.

Promote and maintain a safe and compliant working environment, proactively identifying and addressing risks and supporting a culture of accountability.

Manage delivery run schedules and time slot allocations, ensuring high dock efficiency, driver punctuality, and customer service levels.

Liaise with loading teams and drivers to ensure smooth dispatch operations, clear documentation, and accurate freight matching.

Coordinate all aspects of the transport network including route planning, freight bookings, paperwork, and communication with clients and internal stakeholders.

Work closely with warehouse and operations teams to enhance DC efficiency, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reduce delivery lead times.

Monitor and support delivery execution, resolving any on-road or dispatch issues quickly to maintain service standards.

Build strong relationships with clients and internal departments, managing expectations and ensuring clear, proactive communication.

Use data and systems to ensure optimal fleet and resource utilisation, driving cost-effective and commercially sound decisions.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, actively contributing ideas to enhance route performance, delivery quality, and customer experience.

Skills and Experience

Minimum 5+ years' experience in transport, logistics, or delivery network planning, preferably within a high-volume, multi-drop environment.

Proven experience in transport coordination or route optimisation, ideally in a fast-paced 3PL or 4PL setting.

Strong understanding of the Queensland logistics landscape, including local delivery constraints, traffic patterns, and subcontractor availability.

High attention to detail with a sound understanding of commercial impacts of routing decisions (fuel, time, labour efficiency).

Passionate about technology with a strong interest in leveraging planning tools, GPS systems, and real-time tracking platforms.

Natural problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset – always looking to streamline, optimise, and improve performance across the network.

Clear and confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams, including drivers, warehouse staff, and customer service teams.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to use data to drive insights and report on performance.

Comfortable working in a fast-moving, ever-changing logistics environment, responding to challenges and opportunities with urgency and initiative.

Self-motivated, positive attitude, and a genuine interest in growing within the business.

Results-driven and action-oriented, with a focus on meeting deadlines, service levels, and delivery KPIs.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a customer-centric approach.
