In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and/or instruct on summary prosecutions, committals, plea hearings, trials, and appeals in the Magistrates' and County Courts.
  • Conduct thorough legal research, investigation, and analysis to provide accurate written and verbal advice and recommendations on legal issues.
  • Efficiently manage allocated files of minimal complexity, ensuring compliance with office operating standards and legal case management systems, including meeting targets and providing regular reports.
  • accurate and concise legal memoranda on prosecution file issues, providing timely advice to both internal OPP staff and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively engage with relevant parties to identify opportunities for early case resolution, ensuring all cases are competently, efficiently, and expeditiously prepared and presented in court.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of criminal law, procedure, evidence, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to conduct legal research and prepare and conduct prosecutions of moderate complexity, including committals, plea hearings, and trials.
  • High-level ability to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders such as OPP staff, Crown Prosecutors, complainants, witnesses, police, counsel, and the public.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a team environment and contribute to innovative solutions and processes
  • A genuine interest in and commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of victims.

This position has the following inherent requirements:

  1. You must be admitted to the legal profession as an Australian Lawyer, with admission to practice prior to commencing.
  2. You must hold a current Victorian Practising Certificate, or be eligible to obtain one
  3. A valid Australian Drivers Licence is desirable
