About This Opportunity

Join UQ's Property and Facilities Division as Senior Building Services Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the technical quality and assurance of building services across the UQ portfolio.

As an experienced, multi-disciplinary Building Services Engineer, you will provide expert technical leadership across both major capital developments and operational projects. You'll play a key role in shaping UQ's built environment by ensuring building services are designed and delivered to the highest standards.

This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong engagement with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and operational staff, as well as external consultants and contractors.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide expert technical support across the Building Services portfolio, including data analysis, field investigations, and resolution of project or operational issues.
  • Lead technical reviews for all capital works projects, contributing to design workshops, performance optimisation, and whole-of-life cost assessments.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Property & Facilities and external partners to ensure integrated project delivery and a unified approach.
  • Promote continuous improvement through lessons learnt, feedback to design standards, and ongoing professional development to stay current with industry requirements.

About You

The ideal candidate will hold a postgraduate qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering and bring over seven years of experience in the Building Services sector. You will possess strong project management capabilities, with a proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget while managing competing priorities. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, enabling effective engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced technical knowledge across Building Services disciplines, including legal compliance, workplace health and safety, energy performance metrics, and systems such as BMS, asset management platforms, and BIM.

Strong analytical and reporting skills, strategic thinking around energy and sustainability, and a high level of organisation and attention to detail are also critical. Additionally, you will have leadership experience in coordinating teams, resolving issues, and navigating project delivery phases, including practical completion and defects liability, along with a solid understanding of construction contracts, design documentation, and collaborative stakeholder management.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check.
