The Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate holding interests for Wuthathi people in land and sea country in north-eastern Cape York Peninsula centered around Shelburne Bay. These interests include connection for 1,182 square kilometers of land including mainland, coastal and offshore islands and 8,072 square kilometers of sea country within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Coral Sea.

About the role

The Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Finance Officer to join our team. This is a Fixed-term full time position with opportunity of permanent ongoing for suitable candidates. Reporting directly to the Corporate Services Manager, you will play a critical role in entering bookkeeping data; preparing and/or checking payroll; maintaining staff HR records; preparing statutory reports for lodgment; assisting the Manager of Corporate Services in preparing financial management reports, monitoring grant budgets, preparing grant acquittals and assisting with the annual audit.

The position will require gaining an understanding of internal financial and human resources policies and procedures, as well as grant requirements and other contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. Update monthly financial statements, reports, and reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.

Accounts Payable and Receivables: Responsible for processing weekly payment runs including staff reimbursement, supplier payment and travel allowance using MYOB. Reconcile supplier accounts and resolve queries or discrepancies. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to raise invoices e.g.: grant instalments and maintain grant tracker. Managing the workflow of invoices from receiving, receipting, matching and integrating into MYOB. Monitor accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection of outstanding invoices.

Payroll Processing: Administer payroll, including tax calculations, superannuation, and leave entitlements. Ensure compliance with relevant tax and employment regulations.

Banking and Reconciliation: Bank reconciliation across multiple accounts including but not limited to debit card reconciliation via MYOB. Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure financial stability.

Compliance and Audit: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, standards, and internal policies. Assist with internal and external audits.

Financial Analysis and Support: Provide financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Collaborate with other departments to manage budgets and financial planning.

Other Office Tasks: Assist with Office maintenance and supplies, reception tasks by attending and returning calls and emails, assistance for Travel booking, issuing cab vouchers and all other aspects and assist with asset maintenance.

Selection Criteria

Knowledge, skills and experience as a bookkeeper, using MYOB and Microsoft software, ideally within an Aboriginal Corporation. This includes implementing financial policies and procedures & preparing financial reports and reconciliations.

The ability to be involved as part of the Wuthathi administrative team including a willingness to learn and to contribute to improving the effectiveness of the team.

Good oral and written communication skills, including being able to work constructively with Wuthathi Staff, Traditional Owners and a range of government and non-government partners.

A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team operating within the policies and procedures of the Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation.

Mandatory requirements

Certificate IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping or equivalent qualification is preferred; however extensive bookkeeping and payroll experience will be considered.

Manual driving license.
