Junction Support Services

Specialist Refuge Practitioner
The Specialist Refuge Practitioner role is aimed at providing enhanced short-term support to those accessing the Wodonga Youth Refuge. It has been recognised that youth homelessness extends into adulthood, and therefore this service places significance upon the promotion and support of reconciliation with families; so that youth can remain at or return home. Thus, the aim of this service is to provide an early intervention approach to youth homelessness, by diverting youth away from the homelessness service system.
The Specialist Refuge Practitioner supports the aim of this service by providing a rapid response to youth entering the Wodonga Youth Refuge, addressing issues to prevent homelessness and family breakdown. This involves extensive assessment of the young person’s developmental, psychological, health and social needs, and specialist advice and support with relation to the identified needs. This position will work alongside the Youth Pathways & Reconnection Case Manager to provide input regarding the needs of the young person. Secondary consultation with other professionals may also be required.
Selection Criteria:
A relevant tertiary qualification such as Social Work, Welfare or Behavioural Science and/or proven relevant experience to this role.
Experience in the support and service delivery to youth with challenging behaviours, who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect.
