Child and Youth Specialist Worker – Bathurst
Part Time 35hours per week
About us
The Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with the objective and commitment of securing a better future for Aboriginal people in the Orange area. OLALC does this by advocating for the restoration of culturally significant and commercially viable land, pursuing cultural, social, and economic independence for its people, and being politically proactive and vocal about issues affecting Aboriginal people in the area. The OLALC delivers several programs to the community within the LALC boundaries.
About the Position
The Child and Youth Specialist Worker role aims to break the cycle of disadvantage and improve client outcomes for children and young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and who have been impacted by Domestic Violence. The Child & Youth Specialist will work under the supervision of the Team Leader/Program Manager to ensure the professional delivery of services to the clients of the program.
Specialist workers:
assess the physical, social, psychological, and educational needs of resident children and young people and develop an individualised case plan aimed at supporting individuals and families achieve their goals.
Identify children and young people in priority refuges who require specialist children’s support
Provide direct services to children and young people that are trauma informed, family centred and culturally appropriate
Assessing client’s needs, developing a case plan and providing case management.
Referring and supporting clients to engage with other services, including those that may provide long-term and step-down support after the family leaves the refuge.
Ensuring that children, young people and families are connected with education/training, community, culture, family and country.
Facilitating one-to-one and group sessions with parents and children to provide support to children, discuss their needs and address their concerns.
Providing advocacy assistance to children and parents and to act as a linker between the child and other support services.
Work collaboratively with families and other support services
Maintain accurate case notes and comply with reporting requirements
About You
Demonstrated experience working with children and youth
Knowledge of complex issues relating to crisis situations
Understanding and experience responding to risk and safety in the context of family and domestic violence
Understanding of cross-cultural issues and skills to work with women and children from all backgrounds in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner
Ability to deliver appropriate child related activities for children
High level communication and engagement skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

C Class Driver’s License
