About the Role

We are seeking applications for the casual role of Collections Officer. This is an exciting role working under the direction of the Collections Manager, the Collection Officer is responsible for development and conservation of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre historical Collections.

In this role you will:

Develop and maintain an extensive working knowledge of items held by QPAC Collections and ensure that items are handled, archived, and displayed according to international museum standards and set guidelines

Records creation and database management, undertaking ongoing maintenance and expansion of the Collection Database to ensure that appropriate information on all accessioned items is recorded and accessible to researchers and the public online and adheres to set guidelines

Assist in the research, design and development of both digital and physical exhibitions, displays, workshops, events and other projects

Under the direction of the Collections Manager administer a collection maintenance and care plan including security and climate control

Undertake research on artefacts held within the collection

Respond to research enquiries from students, academics, curators and the public.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

Demonstrated skills in the safe handling, transport, storage and conservation of valuable material.

A related qualification in professional museum collection, conservation, and curatorial practice, that demonstrates specialist experience in concepts, principles, practices, standards and ethics of professional collection management is appreciated but not essential.

The ability to develop and maintain computer-based collection management databases and integrate with corporate knowledge and image management systems (NB: experience with QPAC’s database programs is an advantage).

The ability to undertake research at an advanced level and convey findings in a clear, accessible way.

The ability to produce effective written-for-purpose materials, presentations, reports and other documents.

The ability to create, maintain and develop digital and physical assets.
