Duty Manager Job Description

Position Title: Duty Manager
Location: Port Fairy Victoria
Reports To: General Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Duty Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our establishment. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, skilled in both customer service and team management, with a passion for providing exceptional dining, bar & function experiences. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service, managing staff, ensuring smooth operational processes, and driving profitability while adhering to budgetary goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Oversee all hotel operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in daily activities.
  • Manage opening and closing procedures, inventory control, and supply ordering.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and organization in both front-of-house and back-of-house areas.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, local laws, and company policies.
  • Monitor daily financials and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to meet financial goals.

Team Leadership & Staff Management:

  • Supervise, train, and motivate a team of servers, cooks, bartenders, and other hotel personnel.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Schedule shifts, manage labor costs, and ensure adequate staffing during peak hours.
  • Handle employee conflicts and foster a positive working environment.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating excellent customer service.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure a high standard of guest satisfaction by addressing customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
  • Resolve customer complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain a welcoming atmosphere and foster positive relationships with regular and new patrons.

Financial Oversight:

  • Control operating costs, including labor, food, and beverage costs, and minimize waste.
  • Track sales trends and adjust staffing levels and inventory accordingly.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and reports in collaboration with upper management.
  • Implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability, including upselling, promotions, and improving service.

Marketing & Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to implement promotional campaigns and attract new customers.
  • Organize events, special nights, or loyalty programs to boost customer engagement.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local businesses, suppliers, and the community.

Vendor & Supplier Relations:

  • Manage relationships with suppliers and negotiate pricing and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure timely inventory replenishment and reduce waste through effective stock management.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hotel/pub management or a similar role.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage operations, POS systems, and hotel management software.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control.
  • Excellent customer service and team-building skills.

Certifications:

  • Food Safety Certification (required in most locations).
  • Alcohol service certification, RSA required (if applicable).
