In the words of Lou Johansson, Associate Director Workplace Diversity and Inclusion - "This critical role will have direct influence in building an environment where people in all their diversity can be their authentic selves and achieve success, supported by a longstanding and genuine institutional commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion."

This is your chance to lead meaningful change at the University of Queensland, one of Australia's leading teaching and research institutions. As Manager, Workplace Diversity and Inclusion, you'll drive University-wide strategies that embed equity, diversity and inclusion into the fabric of our culture, practices and systems.

A role like this does not come around often. You will lead strategic priority projects, provide expert advice to senior leaders, and work closely with key stakeholders to advance equity and belonging. From managing institutional reporting to driving awareness and engagement campaigns, your work will shape a more inclusive experience for all UQ staff.

You'll join a values-led organisation that embraces diversity as a strength and champions inclusion as everyone's responsibility. If you're passionate about building inclusive workplaces and driving lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you to create change together and position our University as an employer of choice for diverse current and future staff.

What will I be doing in the role?

As a current Bronze award holder, the University of Queensland is proud to be on the pathway to a Silver award under the SAGE Athena SWAN gender equity, diversity and inclusion program a for the Australian higher education and research sector. In this role, you will coordinate institutional reporting and accreditation activities, including the SAGE Athena SWAN program and Workplace Gender Equality Agency submissions. You will also:

  • Develop and deliver initiatives that embed equity, diversity and inclusion across the University's culture, policies and practices.
  • Provide expert advice to stakeholders at all levels to support inclusive decision-making, strategic planning and policy development.
  • Support and collaborate with employee-led networks, committees and key partners to foster a more inclusive, respectful and psychologically safe workplace.

As part of the UQ community, you will have the opportunity to work alongside the brightest minds, who have joined us from all over the world.

Everyone here has a role to play. As a member of our professional staff cohort, you will be actively involved in working towards our vision of a better world. By supporting the academic endeavour across teaching, research, and the student life, you will have the opportunity to contribute to activities that have a lasting impact on our community.

At UQ, we offer a range of benefits. These include up to 26 weeks paid parental leave and 14 weeks paid primary caregiver leave, 17% superannuation contributions, flexible working options and a study for staff program to support your future learning. We also offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Leave and Gender Affirmation leave.

We are proud to be the first age friendly University in the Southern Hemisphere and if a sense of community is important at your employer, we have networks you can join to contribute to ensuring our workplace is safe, welcoming and inclusive for all including our LGBTQIA+ Ally and Disability Inclusion Networks.

What can I bring to the role?

We are looking for someone who wants to create lasting, meaningful impact alongside 7000 staff, 55,000 students and a global network of partners and alumni. Someone who is challenged to do their best work, inspired by colleagues from across UQ's diverse community. We strongly welcome applicants from all backgrounds and identities.

  • Proven experience delivering equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives in a complex organisation or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of EDI principles, legislation, and best practice - including intersectionality and inclusive workplace cultures.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage, influence and advise diverse stakeholders.
  • Confidence working with data and evidence to inform strategy, drive continuous improvement, and meet reporting requirements.
  • A proactive, collaborative and values-led approach, with a genuine passion for creating a fairer, more inclusive workplace.
  • Experience with frameworks such as SAGE Athena SWAN, WGEA, or other external equity programs will be highly regarded.

If you're unsure whether you meet all the criteria, we still encourage you to apply - we value lived experience and diverse perspectives.
