Rail Grinder Fitter – Diesel & Hydraulics
Duration: 10–12-week leave cover (immediate start)
Roster / Shifts:

• Night shifts: Sun – Wed - 7:00pm - 4:30am
• Typical swing options: 4 days on / 3 days.
• Hours: 9.5 hours paid per shift.
  Pay: $60.48 per hour (Permanent rate) + 25 % loading = $75.60 per hour flat rate.
• Location: Mobile across the entirety of the Melbourne Metropolitan area train network.

The Opportunity
We’re seeking an all-round Rail Grinding Fitter to step in for an unplanned leave period on the client on track grinding machines. You’ll be the sole fitter on shift, keeping complex, heavy-duty rail grinding consists of running safely and efficiently throughout the localised rail network.

Key Responsibilities

• Diesel-hybrid power units
• High-pressure hydraulic & pneumatic systems
• Rail grinding modules (wheel replacement, dressing & alignment)
• Ancillary electrical & PLC-controlled equipment (basic diagnostic level)

• Carry out planned & reactive maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on:
• Perform full machine service at lay-over locations between jobs; mobilise safely to the next site.
• Complete pre-start inspections, JHAs/SWMS and maintenance records in line with company standards.
• Liaise with operators and supervisors to minimise downtime and optimise grind quality.
• Maintain a tidy on-vehicle parts store and raise requisitions for critical spares.

What You’ll Need to SucceedEssential Proven practical experience on heavy mobile plant or rail plant (field-based, not workshop only)
Strong hydraulic fault-finding & rebuild capability
Exposure to diesel-hybrid engines & power generation
Ability to work autonomously as the sole fitter on shift
Desirable Australian Trade Qualification - Cert III Mechanical Fitter / Diesel Fitter
Current RIW (Rail Industry Worker) card MTM, ARTC or other rail network inductions Medium-Rigid (MR) license Basic PLC / CANbus diagnostics
