About the Service Mind Australia is the lead agency in a consortium which comprises of IPC Health, Western Health, and Thorne Harbour Health, who deliver the Melton Local. The Local acts as a front door to the mental health service system utilising a no wrong door approach and provides a continuum of care and support that puts the person accessing the service at the very centre of their treatment. About the role We are seeking approachable and resourceful Community Engagement Officers for a 12 month fixed term, part time (3-4 days per week) opportunity in the Melton area. You will apply evidence-informed community development principles, incorporating intersectional and culturally responsive practices helping to deliver community education, social connection initiatives, therapeutic groups, events and capacity building activities. Key responsibilities

  • Conduct local needs assessments to understand current engagement with diverse consumers, families and carers and identify opportunities for participation and partnership development.
  • Identify community assets, connect with these, record these in an assets register, and create pathways for service users to link with these to support their recovery and wellbeing.
  • Develop strategic relationships across the community to support the Life Links model, including education, training, neighbourhood houses, support groups, events, safe spaces.
  • Develop relationships with service providers, volunteer groups, networks, hardly reached groups and community leaders to promote the Local and support opportunities for collaboration.
  • Engage with existing service users, family and carer volunteer-based support groups, providing support and mentoring.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, Health Promotion, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind and/or equivalent experience in a similar industry.
  • Specific qualifications relating to community engagement or development work will be highly regarded.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the public mental health system and carer support sector, including the Commonwealth and State-based service system.
  • Proven experience in community development and engagement work, using approaches such as asset-based community development and co-design.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including effective use of virtual platforms and social media in the delivery of community engagement work.
