The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is looking for a Senior Lawyer to join its Hobart team in Southern Tasmania.
The focus of the role will be to lead the criminal law practice within the region, support the operation & management of the office and provide culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients in a broad range of matters.
What we are looking for
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in criminal practice and procedure, with substantial experience in appearance work in the Magistrates Court and experience in the Supreme Court is required.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising staff, including junior lawyers.
The ability to work collaboratively with others and foster a positive team environment.
An understanding of the social issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania, and a deep appreciation and respect of their cultural needs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to a wide variety of people.
Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills, demonstrating a history of maintaining positive and effective partnerships.

A competitive salary range $131,480-$150,058* is available, plus access to salary packaging of up to $18,550 (increasing your take-home pay). Our team also enjoy flex time benefits, generous leave provisions and a 35hr working week.
The successful applicant will also be part of an out of hours telephone on-call roster, which attracts additional financial and other benefits.
Assistance with relocation costs may be provided.
*New proposed Enterprise Agreement rates are subject to approvals.
Requirements
The successful candidate will need to be admitted as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, undergo a National Police Check and apply for a Working with Vulnerable Persons registration.
