LOCATION PROFILE

Bundoora Secondary College is a year 7-12 College in a quiet residential area of Bundoora, a northern suburb of Melbourne. We are an innovative, caring school and take great pride in knowing every member of our community (both staff and students) as individuals and as learners.

The school is set on a well-developed, picturesque site adjacent to Gresswell Forest. The spacious grounds include a variety of playing fields and as our school farm continues to develop, a range of animal paddocks, productive gardens and indigenous flora plots. Our school enjoys a strong partnership with our neighbours including Melbourne Polytechnic, Latrobe University and RMIT Bundoora Campus as well as other universities further afield. SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Possess the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position.

2. Highly developed administrative and time management skills.

3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.

4. Knowledge of VDSS and compliance requirements.

5. Ability to advise and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including the school community, industry, business, the wider community and education and training bodies.

ROLE

The BSC VET Conservation & Ecosystem Management Trainer will provide high quality and professional customer service to the college and will help to maintain and promote the college's ‘Urban Agriculture and Conservation’ program to ensure the provision of a safe, secure, and high-quality learning environment for students and the wider school community.

The BSC Urban Agriculture and Conservation program is continuing to rapidly develop, therefore this position requires a person with the experience, passion, and drive to help co-create and deliver the vision. Bundoora Secondary College currently offers the AHC21024 Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management qualification to the Northern Melbourne VET cluster and the successful applicant must have the necessary qualifications and experience to teach this course.

This position will be part time (0.2 EFT) for the purposes of delivering the Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management qualification, however the successful applicant may negotiate additional duties, and an increased time fraction, based on their skills and qualifications. The CEM course is currently delivered every Wednesday during the school terms from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

The BSC VET Conservation & Ecosystem Management Trainer responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Deliver training programs as assigned by the college leadership team, including:

· obtaining and using a range of educational resources and learning materials to provide students with a variety of learning experiences.

· developing a stimulating learning environment by using a variety of styles, techniques, and approaches to present current material.

· creating effective learning options to meet the varying needs of students.

· submitting student at risk and progress reports and notes according to school policies.

· performing all duties associated with subject delivery and assessment.

2. Accurately completing required administration tasks in a timely and professional manner.

3. Assisting with development of the college ‘Urban Agriculture and Conservation’ program and other school improvement projects as required.

4.Demonstrate a commitment to providing a child safe learning environment, equal opportunity, ethical practice, and occupational health and safety relevant to the training context.

5. Contributing to the maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace by reporting accidents and hazards and addressing risks.

6. Ensuring that environmental sustainability is practiced.

Working Relationships

The BSC VET Conservation & Ecosystem Management Trainer:

· Works collaboratively with other teaching staff in the college ‘Urban Agriculture and Conservation’ program.

· Reports directly to the Assistant Principal – Innovation, Provision, and Community.

· Provides support and advice to other staff as required.

· Liaises with external agencies and providers as required.

Experience/Skills

It is expected that the BSC VET Conservation & Ecosystem Management Trainer will possess the following experience/skills:

· Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

· Relevant industry experience. For example: land management, restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems, indigenous propagation and horticulture.

· Previous experience in a similar VET trainer/assessor role (desirable)

· Previous experience working in a school environment, or working with youth (highly desirable).

· A current Working with Children Check.

· A current driver's licence.

· Strong commitment to the principles and practices of OH&S.

· Strong teamwork and communication skills, demonstrated by a rapport with all levels of the organisation, including young adults.

High level of organisational and time management skills with an ability to manage and prioritise a number of concurrent tasks whilst meeting deadlines.
