The Role

Your role as an APS 4 Financial Analyst within the Financial Accounting and Assets teams is accountable for the following:

  • Performing asset management activities in asset accounting, balance sheet management and financial statements analysis and reporting.
  • Contributing to the completion of the monthly and yearly asset management and financial reporting requirements.
  • Providing advice to business units on technical asset and financial accounting issues.
  • Understanding and applying asset management policies and procedures.
  • Building and sustaining effective relationships with team members and stakeholders and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
  • Taking the initiative to progress work to meet business objectives.
  • Resolving problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.

About our Team

There is no single employer in the Commonwealth that offers the breadth of technical challenges that DFG tackle. Working in the Financial Accounting and Assets team means you will be applying your professional judgement and knowledge to a huge range of complex accounting issues. The Financial Accounting and Assets team are responsible for the full financial reporting function and financial management of Defence assets through their capability lifecycle.

They are also accountable for policy advice, compliance assurance and conducting quality assurance checks on financial accounting activities. The teams’ judgement is relied upon to deliver professional advice and reporting around complex assets, business processes, procurements, and multi-year billion dollar projects.

The team is responsible for the financial accounting behind the largest asset base in the Commonwealth valued into the hundreds of billions of dollars. Think big, physical tangible “stuff” like aircraft, ships, submarines, plus a huge property portfolio, specialist military equipment, and complex Intellectual Property and bespoke technology. Career growth prospects are strong, because if you understand the assets underpinning Defence, you will understand a lot about the business.

You get to analyse complex trends, work on the forefront of changes to accounting standards (e.g. lease and asset standards changes) and as well as help prepare policies that impact the whole organisation.

You will gain a full understanding of the asset lifecycle from procurement to disposal. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in the largest ERP (SAP) implementation project in the Southern Hemisphere.
