  • TCSA Clerk Grade 7/8 Salaried Award, Annual package starting from $124,425 (includes base salary starting from $110,266 + superannuation & leave loading)

Join us in making a difference at Taronga. This is a truly unique and varied role, where you'll be in Zoo grounds working closely with all teams - the dynamic working environment is different every day!!

Our WHS team is on the search for an experienced and autonomous Senior WHS Advisor. This role empowers you to influence safety culture by guiding people leaders with expert advice and practical solutions to proactively manage workplace risks across diverse zoo operations.

This is a Monday to Friday role, ideally 8am till 4pm.

About the Role…

Supporting Taronga Zoo and Taronga Western Plains Zoo, you'll collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including animal keepers, veterinary staff, commercial operations, education and conservation teams, and trades staff in facilitating the development of safety management plans. You will provide expert advice and ensure effective risk controls for high-risk activities. You'll also lead and mentor WHS team members, supporting their development and overseeing projects. Your ability to engage with teams, understand operational challenges, and tailor practical safety solutions will be key to fostering a safe and compliant work environment.

This role suits an experienced professional who thrives in a dynamic and complex risk environment, works autonomously, and takes a proactive approach to achieving strategic safety objectives. With a focus on delivering tangible outcomes, you'll drive continuous improvement, strengthen safety systems, and contribute to a positive safety culture.

Key Accountabilities…

  • Collaborate with teams to develop and implement effective safety protocols tailored to departmental risk management needs, ensuring appropriate mitigations and controls.
  • Engage in high-level critical thinking and innovative problem-solving to manage short, medium, and long-term risks and opportunities.
  • Analyse WHS data to identify trends, insights, and emerging risks, providing proactive recommendations and mitigation strategies to improve safety outcomes.
  • Conduct operational reviews and audits of safety systems, reporting findings and recommending improvements through continuous improvement action plans.
  • Coach and influence supervisors and managers to effectively implement risk management processes and enhance safety leadership.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to the WHS Advisor and WHS Officer.
  • Periodic travel to Dubbo to support the team in delivering an effective WHS program.
  • Design and conduct local, topic-specific WHS training (desirable).

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • 5+ years' experience in a WHS role with a strong focus on risk management, and relevant qualifications are highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting WHS audits and operational reviews, with the ability to develop improvement plans and drive continuous safety enhancements.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and drive WHS initiatives in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to coach and influence supervisors and managers to embed effective risk management practices.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure, managing tight deadlines, challenging circumstances, and high workloads while maintaining professionalism and delivering outcomes.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience, with the ability to guide and support WHS team members.
  • Senior First Aid and a valid NSW Driver's License.
  • NSW Working with Children Check.
