The Property Agents Board is an independent statutory authority established under the Property Agents and Land Transactions Act 2016 (the Act) to ensure the Tasmanian property agents industry operates with a high level of integrity in accordance with the Act, the Property and Land Transactions Regulations 2017 and the Code of Conduct.
As the regulatory authority for property agents in Tasmania, our work as the industry regulator leads to increased levels of consumer protection and enhances public confidence and trust in property agents.
Our opportunity
An exciting opportunity to join our well-established team based in Hobart, engaging in purposeful work that positively shapes the conduct of property agents in Tasmania.
The position of Complaints & Investigations Officer influences the effective operation of the Property Agents Board by:
Assessing, investigating and reporting on complaints
Drafting complaint decisions for Board approval
Maintaining effective communication and relationships with complainants and other parties to complaints, including dealing with telephone enquiries relating to complaints
Liaising with the Board's legal counsels in regard to investigated matters referred to the Tribunal and assist with the preparation of complex documents relating to Tribunal matters
Engaging with the Board to speak to investigations undertaken
Advancing the standing of the property agents industry by contributing to the development and dissemination of industry educational resources and collaborative industry projects
To be successful in this role, you will need
1. Legislative Interpretation and application: Sound knowledge and understanding of the Property Agents and Land Transactions Act 2016, Property Agents and Land Transactions Regulations 2017 and related legislation, or the ability to quickly gain such knowledge.
2. Decision making and professionalism: Demonstrate sound judgment, research and investigative skills with attention to detail to make impartial decisions in a statutory decision making context. Analyse evidence and use information from policies and procedures and other materials and apply legislative provisions.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to engage and provide clear and accurate information to a range of stakeholders at the appropriate level.
4. Written Communication: Outstanding written communication skills, including experience in preparing unique correspondence and reports on complex matters that clearly articulate the rationale for recommendations.
5. Managing Workload: Exceptional work management skills, including exercising judgment in a timely and efficient manner, seeking advice, escalating complex issues proactively and with limited direction. Organise and prioritise workload to ensure compliance with legislated timeframes.
6. Teamwork: Demonstrate ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of the complaints Team and wider Property Agents Board staff, participating in corporate activities to build and sustain positive working relationships.
7. Industry Awareness: Knowledge and understanding of the property agents industry/property transactions, or the ability to quickly gain such knowledge.
Essential skills for this role are:
Experience in interpreting legislation, regulations or other instruments and awards
Well-developed interpersonal skills, with a willingness and ability to interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
Desirable skills for this role are:
Tertiary qualified in a related discipline
Experience working in complaints management or investigatory role
