The Opportunity

We’re on the look-out for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant to join our Laboratory and Clinical Operations team. The Laboratory and Clinical Operations team are responsible for overseeing the management of laboratories and clinical research facilities across Baker Institute.

How this role makes a difference

This position plays a vital role in facilitating the day-to-day activities of our Laboratory, Clinical Operations and Purchasing teams.

How you’ll make an impact

In this role you will be expected to:

Provide support in media preparation and autoclaving services, ensuring the availability of sterile supplies and equipment for laboratory operation.

Provide support in the management of the lifecycle of laboratory and clinical research equipment, including inventory tracking, maintenance scheduling, and disposal procedures.

Provide support in the procurement process for scientific equipment, including researching vendors, obtaining quotes, and coordinating purchases within budgetary constraints.

Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of cold rooms and ultra-low temperature (ULT) cold storage units, tissue culture rooms and communal equipment areas

Provide input into Standard Operation Procedure development as required.

What will you bring?

You will have:

An understanding and experience in basic laboratory techniques.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders in a positive and effective way

Proven organisational skills that demonstrate the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and respond to requests in a timely manner while paying careful attention to detail.

Demonstrated initiative to develop solutions to problems or challenges that emerge.

Demonstrated ability to act independently and exercise sound judgement.

Previous experience working in a laboratory environment with experience in handling infectious materials and using an autoclave preferred.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
